Tinnitus Is Too Severe To Sleep - Help?!

Question: Tinnitus Is Too Severe To Sleep - Help?
Hey there, a little bit of background information just so you know as much as possible
I'm a 16 year old musician. When i was about 13-14, I listened to an iPod on a very loud volume for a long time. After about a year of this, tinnitus started to develop. I noticed this and stopped listening to my iPod so much. After i stopped listening to my iPod, i began playing the drums in a semi professional band, which gigged roughly once every 3 weeks. I never used to use protection on my ears, but as the tinnitus grew worse, i started using some professional £200 ear defenders. Ever since i got these, my tinnitus has pretty much stayed the same, except for a couple of louder gigs which got through to my ears and actually made the tinnitius extremely bad.

Right now, i'm into about my 8th day of not sleeping well at all. It's horrible, it's a high pitched ringing sound that is extremely loud. When i listen to music through a computer, or play my guitar, i can hear it over the top of the instrument or music.
I've been to the GP twice about this, and he told me to just prevent it by buying some ear defenders (which i've done) and the first time i visited him, he reffered me to an ENT, who did a hearing test. The test showed that my hearing hasn't been damaged at all, i've just developed tinnitus through loud noise exposure.

Now what i'm actually here on Yahoo for, is to ask for as many possible remedies and cures for tinnitus which you know. I want to know every cure, experimental, homoeopathic, everything! Just anything to help me get some relief from this ringing! It's driving me nuts. I really do need some help with this as it's starting to effect my life significantly.
Thanks, any info is appreciated

(Anybody reading this who also suffers from tinnitus please email me (matthewmaster12345@hotmail.co.uk) and tell me how you cope with it?)

I'm sorry to hear about your predicament. There is no "cure" for tinnitus. The reason is that tinnitus is caused by hearing loss and the hearing loss that causes it is generally permanent (either from aging, noise, etc.). The brain can learn to ignore the tinnitus though, but that takes some work on your part to reduce your stress (like meditation) and sound therapy to help the brain not hear the ringing. Currently the best treatment for tinnitus is sound based therapies. The only web-based one, that is research based and personalized, is at beyondtinnitus.com.

This company's system is based on research of two ear nose and throat doctors done at the University of California Irvine.

Basically, they figure out your tinnitus pitch and loudness, etc. and give you a sound file that you can download for therapy that is specific to your tinnitus. The therapy sound can be mixed with your own music using their system and you can listen to your own music while the sound therapy file is working in the background.

The alternative is therapy in the clinic with tinnitus retraining therapy or Neuromonics, but those will cost you ~$5000.

Herbal remedies have not been shown to be effective in good clinical studies. Sound therapies have are effective 80-90% of time, whereas herbal remedies have only been found to be as effective as sugar pills. Ginkgo has been studied in large clinical trials and it wasn't found to be effective at all. My dad had bothersome tinnitus and he took Ginkgo and it didn't help. He tried the sound therapy and he can't hear the ringing. If he really concentrates on it and listens for it, he hears it, but otherwise it's not noticeable and doesn't keep him up at night.

You can look at the beyondtinnitus.com website for more info on various treatments of tinnitus. Good Luck!

Try Sound Therapy and/or a Scalar Pendant.

Do a bit of research into both, I'm sure they could both be of benefit for you. Best of luck :)

There a pill that is sold over the counter, don't know the name. Some people have to wear a hearing aid.

According to the American Tinnitus Association (ATA), there is no known cure of tinnitus, at least with the conventional line of medicine. For a long time though, herbs & herbal formulas have come to the rescue of these tinnitus sufferers.

Tinnitus is usually due to damage to the microscopic ends of the hearing nerve in the inner ear. Perfect hearing is possible only if these nerves remain healthy and any damage to these nerves results in tinnitus or hearing impairment.

Some herbal remedies exist which can be used to support all body systems involved in helping the ear to perform its tasks of clear hearing and balance, as well as the circulatory, cardiovascular, and nervous systems.

Some of the most common herbs & biochemic tissue salts used are
? Ginkgo Biloba is excellent for a number of cerebral and circulatory disorders. It is probably the most widely-used herb for tinnitus and many sufferers swear by this natural ingredient.
? Rosemary dilates and strengthens blood vessels and is an excellent circulation tonic. Rosemary is particularly useful for tinnitus that is caused or worsened by high blood pressure and other circulatory conditions.
? Avena Sativa is effective in reducing high cholesterol levels which can contribute to circulatory problems which cause tinnitus.
? Wild Hyssop is also useful in reducing pain and inflammation.
? Salicylic Ac. (30C) is indicated for tinnitus with loud roaring or ringing sounds, which may be accompanied by deafness or vertigo. This remedy is particularly useful in people whose symptoms began with a bout of flu, Meniere’s disease or long-term use of aspirin.
? Ferrum phosphoricum (Ferrum phos. D6) is a homeopathic biochemic tissue salt which supports the absorption of iron in the body. The protective myelin sheath which surrounds all nerve tissue needs iron to supply this vital nutrient to the nerve cells it encases. Regular use of Ferrum phos. can help to prevent dizziness, headaches and restlessness and is of great benefit for those who tend to feel irritable, tense and tired.
? Magnesium phosphate (Mag. phos. D6) well-known as a homeopathic painkiller, Mag. phos. is also of great benefit to the health of the nerves. It acts as a natural anti-spasmodic and a nerve and muscle relaxant and is also frequently recommended for stress headaches.

Hope all this helps

Good Luck!
