I got a flu shot 2 weeks ago but how come I still caught the flu?!

Question: I got a flu shot 2 weeks ago but how come I still caught the flu?
I thought I was supposed to be "immune" to it? Maybe I'm just weak? ...

It might be because 2 people at school sneezed/coughed close to me and I might had catch the germs ...

Well, I did shovel the snow for an hour today at 0 below degrees so that might also be it ...

But the fact I got the flu shot was supposed to decrease my chances of catching the flu ... I just don't get it ...

You got the flu because the vaccine was ineffective. The strain that they gave you was not the strain that you encountered OR your immune system was not able to cope with the virus they gave you and as a result they infected you. Many times on these forums I see "scientific" people say that alternative medicine is a scam. How is this any different? You were sold a lie that if you got the shot you would not get the flu and you did. Sounds like a scam to me!

The flu shot is a scam that benefits the manufacturer.
Vaccines contain RNA and DNA fragments of various flu viruses. If you're particularly susceptible you'll get the flu from the flu shot. The medical industry always has some handy excuse for their failings: you had the flu before you got the shot, it's not their strain of flu you got, it takes 2 weeks to "kick in"... basically they blame the patient. So with all these variables, why bother?
People need to wise up and become educated consumers.
Cochrane studies are the gold standard for analysis of research and it definitively states that flu vaccines are ineffective at preventing flu.
Contrary to armchair opinions, there's a huge difference between how the immune system reacts to ingested substances and those that are introduced into the bloodstream. But since skeppie morons just parrot drug company propaganda...
There are still claimants being compensated for vaccine induced autism.
Whooping cough vaccine is ineffective too, and most forms of what occurred in California are para-pertussis for which there's no vaccine, and it wouldn't work any better than the other crap.
If you want to avoid colds and flu take 5 to 10,000 iu of vitamin D3 a day in the winter.
There are some good articles at Mercola.com

your experience tends to reinforce the findings of a recent study from the cochrane central register of controlled trials, which concluded that people who get a flu shot are more, not less, likely to get the flu. it also contains preservatives, such as aluminum or mercury which can cause alzheimer's disease, and formaldehyde, a carcinogen. they reported more potentially injurious effects. find out what it is you are injecting into yourself before you do it. you might save yourself a lot of grief.(gary- everything regarding harmful effects stated here is from the report, not my opinion. you are the liar. you put your foot in your mouth again. must like the taste i guess.)

They study the flus in china, and figure which strains they think are most likely to get here...sometimes their totally off base, and the flu shot doesn't work for any strains that come here, a huge waste of recourses, besides, flu shots got mercury in them, can cause autism...I wouldn't get one.

Yes you can get the flu after the flu shot. It's more likely that you got the flu FROM the flu shot! Take vitamins! Carry a bottle of sanatiser with you at all times and use it often! Wash you hands a lot! Dont touch your face! You don't need a flu shot. They are dangerous!

All vaccines are never 100% effective. Not to mention that every human body responds differently (though they ignore that and give everyone the same dose). Here is more info:

The shot is itself the flu virus but in supposedly "inactive" form. I havent had a flu shot in five years or more and havent had the flu. I think if you exercise, eat and live healthy, you dont need it.

A flu shot takes about a month before it is effective but even so you can still get the flu but it will be less severe than without the flu shot and you will recover a bit quicker than without the flu shot

cause they gave you the flu when they gave you the shot

just follow the money , and the scare tactics

The vaccines usually contain three 'viruses', selection is based on what research indicates will be most common during the upcoming season. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body and provide protection against influenza virus infection. So you could have picked up the bug even in the doctor’s office. The vaccine can not and does not cause the flu.

Two answerers so far are lying to you; Kathy Millar and Mr E. Let’s be absolutely clear – vaccines do NOT cause autism. The evidence is in and there is scientific consensus. The seasonal flu vaccine contains a very small amount of thiomersal - a mercury based preservative; thiomersal does not contain elemental mercury, but ethyl-mercury which is very safe and expelled quickly from the body. Neither does it cause Alzheimer’s disease. You get more mercury, and the dangerous type, from eating a tuna fish sandwich.

The seasonal flu vaccine is extremely safe, so ignore these anti-vaxxer morons who are contributing to the recent upsurge in vaccine preventable illnesses and deaths - like the current whooping cough epidemic in California where this year has been 7,297 cases, including 10 deaths, nine of them in infants under two months old – the worst epidemic since 1947.
