I am only going to address this in the symbolic fashion, because well, there is no other way....
Each of the metals is symbolized by a planet, angel, element, etc...so are all the gemstones, and historically, pieces of jewelry were often fashioned in such a way that the metal and gems were 'harmonious" in their intention.
{psst - to the best of my knowledge, most of what we consider to be metals are conductors - copper, gold, silver, platinum, iron, steel, etc) I'm sure there are some metallic elements that aren't...but those aren't exactly used in jewelry either.}
Oh - and don't expect a ring to cure your arthritis...but if a ring makes you think or feel better about being more assertive...who am I to judge?
Ahem... gemstones don't have any therapeutic qualities.
