Valium (diazepam)....?!

Question: Valium (diazepam)....?
Prescribed 5mg diazepam for anxiety and it makes me so sleepy during the day. So, was thinking of taking like, little quarters of it or even just a crumb of it instead. Would that work? Would taking tiny amounts like that allow me to at least function a little better during the day? Thanks for any advice.

It depends. Some pills cannot be used effectively if they are cut or broken. Look at your pills and see if there is a line scored through the middle, that is a sign that it is ok to cut the pill in half.

Taking a smaller dose may help you function during the day better. You could also consider when you take the pill, maybe a few hours before bedtime so that some of it will have left your system by the next morning.

If the side effects don't improve, then talk to your doctor. Valium is a long acting benzodiazepine, but there are plenty of others on the market with shorter duration of action. Alprazolam (xanax) and lorazepam (atavan) both have an intermediate duration of action and are effective for anxiety (but these drugs have a higher risk of dependence). While Triazolam is a short duration benzodiazepam that is useful as a sleep aid.

Additionally buspirone (buspar) is an anti-anxiety drug with no hypnotic side effects and little risk of dependence, however it takes several weeks to reach full effectiveness. Best of luck

As mentioned, kava and sceletium are natural anxiety remedies. Mulungu is also a Brazilian herb that is comparable to kava. See below for more info regarding these. There are also a number of other natural remedies for anxiety http://worldseedsupplyherbalremedydataba…

Yes, smaller amounts will still have an effect.

However, I would just hold onto those for emergencies and use a more mild anxiolytic like kava extract or mesembrine (kanna - Sceletium tortuosum). Both are available OTC.
