I work in an alcohol rehab clinic in the UK, we use the Alcoholics Anonymous 12 step program of recovery as part of our treatment for alcoholism, you don't have to go to rehab to do the program and it's absolutely free.
If you don't want to go down this route and I know it isn't for everyone, probably the best medication and recently approved by the FDA is Campral, I don't know if you can get it without prescription though in the USA, in the UK it's only available on prescription.
Campral helps to reduce the cravings AFTER you have quit, it won't help you quit, AA can do that, if you want any more help you're welcome to email me.
