What would happen if you didnt treat a yeast infection?!

Question: What would happen if you didnt treat a yeast infection?
I'm pretty sure ive had a yeast infection for maybe a year now. Ive always had lots of discharge and never really knew what it was. So is it bad for me that I haven't treated it for this long now?

First of all, a yeast infection really isn't an "infection".....it doesn't result from bacteria, it results from an overgrowth of yeast. Yeast in our body is normal, but taking antibiotics (among other things) can kill off the good bacteria that keeps in balance with the yeast, hence causing an overgrowth of candida (yeast).

It won't hurt your tubes and cause infertility.....it's not from a bacteria or "germ". I would guess if you really had a yeast infection, you would've wanted it treated by now, not waiting a year. It causes SEVERE itching and redness in the vaginal and vulva areas and is characterized by an almost sweet smell and white, clumpy discharge.

You can get over-the-counter treatments for yeast infections at any drugstore/pharmacy and your doctor/practitioner can call in an oral pill called Diflucan for treatment as well. I would make an appointment with your practitioner to see what you have going on.

You could develop a case of endocervitis - which is inflammation of the vagina and cervix. After a year, I would suspect that more so....Leukorhea is another option. A yeat infection typically doesn't last a year, menstral blood has the ability to neutralize the pH of the vaginal tract, which often allows the body the "one up" on fighting the infection. However, you can't treat either of those over the counter...

Get yourself to a doctor, a clinic, a nurse practitioner, would you? If you don't have insurance, google planned parenthood, or look in the phone book under womens care clinic. They see people on a sliding scale. Don't neglect your health from now on, alright?

It could spread to your fallopian tube with bacteria rending you infertile.

There are plenty of stuff over the counter. I do not know how you manage to tolerate it for a year !

edit : not it is not an infection but having it for a year and leaving it untreated ? That could be fertile ground for bacteria.

I think Tink has the best answer !

go and see your doctor

you're a bit gross letting an infection go on for so long especially one that is easy to treat

my best guess is that you would die from infection or it will eat you from the inside out (really, I don't know)
