Question about ear stapling?!

Question: Question about ear stapling?
My mom wants to give ear stapling a try to lose weight. I told her that it was crazy and there was no point since it isn't legal in our area and it would at least have to be a 3 hour drive to another state to get it done. But I was just curious if there is anyone who's had it done, either to lose weight or to stop smoking and weather or not it worked for them. I was reading an article about it and it said that it could help migraines, which I actually have chronically. So now she's trying to convince me to go with her and have it done as well... does anyone know about this as well?

Answers:

It relies on acupuncture points on the ears. Modern science has shown that acupuncture doesn't work and that there is no such thing the 'meridians' on which acupuncture points are 'located'. Acupuncture is a pre-science concept developed by cultures which had no model of how the human body works. Today quacks profit by exploiting many ancient 'healing' techniques by claiming that if it has been around so long, it must work. Well no, they have been thrown out by science simply because they lack any plausibility and it can't be proved they work.

Ask your mom to show you the robust, peer reviewed scientific data that proves ear stapling actually works for any condition, and that it is safe. She won't be able to, because it doesn't exist. Meanwhile here is some reading for you: http://theness.com/neurologicablog/?p=14

I've heard about it, never got it done myself, but it just sounds sinking.
Actually though, I heard it worked with weight lose.
I read up into dumb stuff like that. Still, I'd definitely do some serious research into this before doing something as serious as that is.
Like, what are the risks compared to benefits?
And consult a doctor!

Anything that "cures" a condition such as that - or better yet, can cure several of them - has every mark of total BS upon it.

However, I will leave you with this report - think about it - three patients in one office presenting with complications from the same procedure. What are the chances of that....just sounds odd to me
