Herbal treatments and overactive thyroid?!

Question: Herbal treatments and overactive thyroid?
I've had an overactive thyroid since I was 14 I'm now 24 with 2 children. I thought about having the iodine treatment but I don't want to end up with an under active thyroid, and couldn't not see my children for 6 weeks after. The operation isn't for me either. I was wandering if there are any herbal or alternative medicines that can treat it, or keep thyroid levels down. I've been taking carbimazole for 10 years now. Thanx in advance for any advice

sorry but i have not heard of any alternative treatments for hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid), just as there are none for hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid). maybe one day a valid alternative treatment will be found. i truly hope so as i have underactive thyroid.
if your doc monitors your reaction to dosage carefully then you should be ok.
ps. i would be very careful of treatments suggesting that they could reverse the process as the way in which the thyroid functions is much more complex than simply taking iodine treatments.
take care.

Homeopathy has successfully used thyroidinum to regulate thyroid function. Find a professional certified Homeopath.
NASH (North American Society of Homeopaths) has a directory of well qualified people.

Not sure about Herbal treatment but Homeopathic medicine can definitely help-- see a Qualified Homeopath who will work out a treatment plan for you.

Have you thought about working with a ND to try to figure out what is causing your thyroid to be hyper? A nutritionist may even be able to help you by suggesting dietary and lifestyle changes to balance things out in your body. Genetics can predispose us to different conditions but normally a system of the body (like your thyroid) starts functioning improperly, because something is creating an imbalance. Your hyperthyroid "could" be a symptom of many things and I would start by having a specialist help you try to figure out what is causing you to be hyperthyroid. Western Medicine tends to focus mostly on removing the symptom rather than finding the cause and treating that, which in turn removes the problem. I am not a doctor but I have a lot of experience when it comes to alternative medicine and I would emphasize that you get more answers before you start trying different herbs that people suggest will help you. Another suggestion I would make is if you haven't already is, have your other hormonal levels tested, especially your cortisol. This test is most accurately done by testing saliva multiple times throughout the day, adrenal fatigue from high cortisol overtime can play a big role in production of thyroid hormone. So you may want to rule that out as well. I have experienced many health problems in the past, including ones with my thyroid and I understand how hard it is. I hope this helps. Best of luck to you.
