Please don't do this to your child! It will be painful, traumatic and horrifying! It is also potentially dangerous if you are not a professional.
This extreme approach is so unnecessary! There are natural, easy, even pleasant ways to correct the problem. Give your child a good amount of apple juice, apple sauce, or sliced raw apples. Snacking on dried plums (aka: prunes) and/or dried apricots will also get things moving along. Most kids will happily accept these "goodies" if presented as treats. An onslaught of soluble fruit fiber will naturally fix the problem, usually within one day. Be careful not to go overboard, or the next thing will be a bout of diarrhea!
It is not surprising that something like this might occur right after the holidays, when the child's diet is less healthy than normal, and routines may be disrupted. However, if it is an on-going problem, you need to take a close look at what you are feeding this child. Whole grains and fruit are what keeps bowel function optimal. If a child is allowed to live on peanut butter, chicken nuggets, fries, etc. you can expect problems.
I raised my kids with a healthy, well-balanced diet. It wasn't always easy, but I presented fruit as a wonderful treat and dessert option. They only know what you teach them. My kids had no idea for many years that you could but candy at the grocery store. They thought it was something Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny brought, and nice people gave out at Halloween. Sure, my kids had peanut butter, occasionally, on whole wheat bread. We always had apples and applesauce in the house. If they wanted a snack or a treat, they got a piece of fruit. To this day, if you offered my son a Butterfinger bar or a wedge of cantaloupe, he will choose the cantaloupe every time.
I personally do not care for cantaloupe, but he never needed to know that. I learned a valuable lesson with my daughter. She used to adore my mother's home-grown tomatoes. For years, my mom tried to convince me I would like them if I tried them. I couldn't get it through her head that I had tried them, just to see, and still found them disgusting. I proclaimed that I have never, do not, and will never like tomatoes! My daughter was in the room. She has not eaten a bite of tomato since that day, and maintains she hates them. I have had friends make the same mistake. If you say you hate a food in front of your child, your child will suddenly hate that food also. They do copy-cat you. You have to be vigilant about what you are putting in your child's mouth, and in his/her ears!
Hope this helps. Good luck!

If you buy the disposable ones they only contain a couple (2-3) ounces. So whatever you do, don't use much. You don't want to risk rupturing the bowel. I would suggest going to the drugstore and buying one of the preparations. That way you have the right size tip, etc.

you dont say how old the child is and for safety i would go to nurse/doc for them to assess the degree of constipation.
pls dont try and give an enema to a child yourself...it could be dangerous and very distressing for the child.

Give them some fiber and they'll be fine. Or go out and buy some of those tablets that make you crap. Honestly, this is potentially dangerous. Not to mention I'm pretty sure your child will be traumatized and so angry at you.
