What's the best remedy for cramps?!

Question: What's the best remedy for cramps?
I get REALLY bad cramps. Medicine doesn't help, unless in large doses. And rather than shoving billions of pills down my throat, I'd like to find something natural! PLEASE HELP!

The magnesium suggestion is best so far.

One possible option can be tropane alkaloids that are very available in "witchy" plants like datura, henbane, iochroma, or belladonna. These chemicals decidedly stop cramping, but they can also cause fairly severe constipation and dry mouth. Also, overdose is quite possible. You would need a person who really knows their stuff to guide you successfully on that. My ex would chew on 2 datura seeds for when IBS got bad and it would curb the cramps; but bizarre side effects were noted sometimes.

Also, there are two Japanese herbal preparations that ALLEGEDLY give relief. I am totally ignorant on Japanese medicine, so at your own risk.

Drinking milk helps. 2 Aleve tablets a day should give you some relief (do not exceed recommended dosage of any pain reliever). Moderate exercise gives many people relief. Probably the very best relief you can get will come from heat. A heating pad or hot water bottle on your abdomen is your best friend during these times. If you must go to school or work on these days, buy some heat patches make for this. They are undetectable under your clothes, and will last at least 8 hours. They should get you through your day.
If all else fails, ask your doctor to prescribe something stronger. Most doctors won't object to giving you Tylenol 3 or something to get you through.
On the bright side, this usually only lasts 2-3 days a month. Hope this helps!

My late wife suffered from endometriosis*(SP) and horrible cramps. one thing which she found very help full was massage. I used to place my fist at the small of her back on her spine. I would push and slightly twist my hand back and forth. sometimes she would need me to press very hard, but it always worked!
I hope this helps you. I know how miserable cramps made her and I hope you can gain from her experience.

personal experience.

Water, lots of it. Drink as much water as you can to prevent them.

Try magnesium citrate. You have to experiment to get the right dose for you.
