People get into drugs for all kinds of reasons. Influence, family/friends, the media, curiosity, etc.
Some drugs can lead people into taking more and other kinds of drugs "gateway drugs".
Drug dependence and addiction is a high factor that leads to people abusing all kinds of drugs.
Some people are surrounded by certain people/environment that has an effect on the drugs they use.

As far as the specific abuse portion based on the high, it also varies greatly. All drugs give different effects or different highs, just like every person can have a different reaction to any given drug. That euphoria and great effect on the drug in addition to the points listed above cause some people to abuse. The comedown or crash after taking a drug and the effects wear can cause people to keep using it to avoid the after effects.

Me, Myself & I

Lol yeah it does give you a pleasure. I've never done any seriously addictive drugs, I'm at least that smart, but I've done other ones like speed, MDMA etc. And yeah the feeling is amazing. I sometimes get asked why by my more sober friends, and now by you, why do it?? but the simple answer is that I can never describe to you what it feels like. Ever. You'll have to experience it yourself.
I'll try though. Every drug has a difference effect, but my favourite one is probably ecstasy. It's kinda like... Waking up in the morning, when your 5 and it's christmas, and finding your favourite toy of all time under the tree. Take that feeling of excitement, of joy and just plain happiness, and apply it to a situation where you might find yourself today, at a party, with your girlfriend perhaps with amazing music blaring out massive speakers, and everything is just perfect. thats what it feels like.
Just remember though there's a fine fine line between use and abuse. Drugs arent for stupid people. If you wanna ever try something, educate yourself about it, and youll be safe.

Life experience.

Some people have pasts they do not want to think about. Staying high means being numb and not having to think and relive the past. Reality is hard for some that have experienced traumas in their lives. That's why some people use, as for others that use who have not experienced trauma, they may just like the feeling or have an untreated mental illness. It's hard to say. Everyone's situation is different. Either way, drug abuse only adds a new set of issues to a person's life.

Life sucks.

Drugs helps the time pass with life being less painful. When some people can't find a way to improve their situation they turn to drugs to occupy themselves or ease the pain.

It excites ur pleasure sensors in ur brain. As you come down from the high, u feel more sh*tty than when u took it. So u take it again, and again. It's addictive too because ur body becomes physically and mentally dependent on it.

cocaine meth ect..cause basically a sense of happiness that you cant accomplish other wise..everything jsut feels right...you get addicted cause of the chemicals...those are all highly addictive drugs.. they just do get addictive..with coke the high is like 20 min then the come down you feel depressed so you want more and more

People do it for different reasons. They make people feel good. Some people do it to be part of a crowd. Other people do it for an escape from reality.

Mammal brains are hard-wired to seek out pleasure. A most basic test of this is to take a mouse and give it access to a some pellets with cocaine and the mouse will press the lever repeatedly to get the cocaine pellets. Even a mouse experiences what we call pleasure and will do whatever it can to seek out "pleasure" in the form of a drug. It's kind of a taboo subject but drugs actually do make you feel good in the short term. The feeling in your brain can be compared to an orgasm, only not as intense, but it does last longer... and that's just from Marijuana which is a harmless and mild substance in moderation. I'm not sure about anything else as I've never done anything more than this, nor do I want to.

Most of us have long-term goals and care about our health, therefore we simply come to the realization that living our lives high all the time is simply not an option. We want to fall in love, get married, have kids, pay off a mortgage, go to college, retire, get promoted... no matter where we are, most of us are so focused on our long term goals that we realize that getting high all the time is not an option. We also don't want to damage our health, burn out too many neurons, or loose all of our teeth. Hard drugs will do all of these things. Each person only has got so many years on this Earth to do everything they want to do, and spending a decade or two as a crackhead is a total waste of years where you could have accomplished something or had great memories of snowboarding, vacationing internationally, and so forth.

Some people do not see it that way, and just act on impulse. Like the mouse eating the pellets, they simply do what their brain is wired to do - seek out pleasure.
