Healing of tissues requires the production of collagen. Collagen production requires vitamin C. It is known that nicotine binds to vit c and therefore limits collagen production. So yes, tobacco slows down healing.

Tobacco always slows down healing after surgery.Even chewing tobacco. Heck it brings disease to every part of the body.Try an electronic cigarette with no tobacco. They can run up to about 90.00 and they recharge electrically, like a cell phone.

It's less commonly know, but yes, it does slow healing.
