7 year old son coughing and being sick but insists he feels fine?!

Question: 7 year old son coughing and being sick but insists he feels fine?
Sorry to be graphic but the sick is phlegmy. He developed a cough 2 nights ago, it's definitely chesty but hardly noticeable during the day. He was first sick this morning whilst trying to eat breakfast, a few hours later he ate a slice of toast and kept it down so I gave him his evening meal as usual which he ate ravenously and lots of it! But then 10 mins later was sick again :(. He is still his usual, happy, laid back self and when I ask he says he feels 'normal' and has no pain anywhere so what's going on?

He probably has a minor cold and plenty of sinus drainage as a result. That would result in loads of mucus. During the day while he's up moving, it drains down to his stomach easily enough, where it gets digested and doesn't cause trouble. But if he's lying down, drainage isn't as easy and he can accumulate a belly full that will come up when he coughs. As this is all the result of a viral illness, he can feel quite fine and not ill, and not run fever or be particularly sick otherwise. If you like, you can use one of the over the counter medications to deal with mucus, or to dry up that little nose during the nighttime. Keep his room air coolish, and have him sleep propped up on pillows, which helps with drainage and breathing. Most viral infections will shift along in about a week, and as long as he's not otherwise sick or running a fever at 102 or more, he should do just fine.

If he is happy, let him be. Do take his temperature, though. If it is above normal, he probably has a virus and you need to keep him away from other people to avoid passing it on. And now is a good time to teach him how to cough without spreading germs. Don`t worry about the food, but be sure he has plenty of liquid and fresh fruit.

Kids are not always too aware of illness until it sort of flattens them. We, as mom's have to be the judge. He sounds like he is trying to fight off some type of flu or cold bug. If fever arises, you might want to call his pediatrician. Give some chicken soup and lots of liquids. It does not matter hot or cold liquids.

If you are concerned, take him to a doctor.

Do NOT take him to an uneducated, unqualified chiropractor, they are NOT medical doctors.

he probably has the influenza 1 flu or phleamonia because it comes after the flu so ya.

get him some proper professional health care. see an hio method upper cervical specific chiropractor.

Taking temperature is one of the most important things to do, like "The Mom" said, anything above 102 is a concern. Yes colds have different phases, so for it to be a deep sounding productive cough on the 3rd day is not unusual. A temp of 100 or 101 is normal and the most important indicator is that the child is happy, moving around, and playing like normal.
Any serious flu or illness, the temperature will go higher into 102-103 and the child will have body aches that make them not want to get up or move around. (Even that is not necessarily a major alarm if you are fairly certain it is from a virus/flu - i.e. someone near you had the same illness recently) but it sounds like he is fine for now.
My last bit of advice - do not try to "keep the fever down" with ibuprofen. A Fever is the body defending itself. Colds (and the fevers) are almost always worse at night.
