Why do people treat doctors like they're Gods?!

Question: Why do people treat doctors like they're Gods?
They seriously don't know everything. They're just people who happened to pass medical school classes and try to act like they know everything. They do not even try to cure chronic disease at all, or educate people on prevention of disease to begin with. They mainly just prescribe drugs for people to spend their money on and get hooked on. They receive practically no training in nutrition which is an enormous factor. It is illegal for them to even suggest natural medicine, which can work much better than drugs. They are simply puppets of big pharma. I am a college student at a top university and not a nutcase. I am taking all the pre-med classes and was actually planning to become a medical doctor until I learned how corrupt this business can be. Why do people listen to them like their gods and not even think of anything else other than what they prescribe?

When the AMA was formed in the middle of the 19th century it was for the purpose of trying to eliminate any form of competition (homeopathy, naturopathy etc.).You can also thank the Flexner Report, which essentially put control of the medical schools in the hands of pharmaceutical companies.
http://www.sntp.net/fda/piper_griffin.ht…
It deliberately set out to close down competing colleges and universities and made a point of elminating women, Jews and people of colour. It attempted to create an aura of authority for it's members and wanted to impose the notion that patients were not allowed to question the wisdom of their doctors...
The history of medicine is extremely interesting and there's a lot more to it than what you find in run of the mill textbooks that don't tell anywhere near the whole story.
The good news is that people are wising up, looking for and finding other forms of medicine that don't have toxic negative effects or require body parts to be yanked out or cut off. The pendulum is swinging the other way (at last).

Most people are atheists regarding most gods that people have ever invented. And judging from your rhetoric you have chosen to treat doctors like just another god you don't believe in.

Nate already gave you a detailed answer of why your assertion is wrong. But it is indeed strange that people believe any conspiracy theory that the "high priests of alt med" can come up with, and be in total neglect of the advances in conventional medicine we have seen during the last few decades. See for instance the survival statistics of childhood cancer: http://info.cancerresearchuk.org/cancers… (The site is not sponsored by the pharmaceutical industry).

Piss-bottle Jones says

because most people, unlike me, don't work for a hospital and have regular access to them. if they did, they would know that while there is a very small percentage that are just fine, the vast majority are money grubbing douchebags

Yeah, I'm sure your school is a "top" "university" and you "choose" to drop your premed class.
Cause fake science and superstition is just so much easier than all the work it takes.
I hate people like you.

Oh dear, did you come bottom in your class and when you realised just how tough med school was going to be, decided to lash out at those cleverer than you?

"I am a college student at a top university......"

Big deal, anyone can get on the courses, it's the graduating that's hard. Universities have a drop out rate of up to 80% on some courses, basically because the students bit off more than they can chew thinking they were more intelligent than they actually were. You're part of the 80%, just deal with it.

I'm afraid no one with any intelligence would trot out tripe such as "natural medicine, which can work much better than drugs" or "They are simply puppets of big pharma" you clearly have absolutely no idea what you're talking about have you?

No training in nutrition? Just because they aren't experts in it does not mean they have no training in it. I mean their not experts on Olympic weightlifting either but they can at least explain the body mechanics and muscles used with each lift.

Illegal to suggest natural medicine? Well i guess the dentist who suggested my wife put a teabag on her wound from getting her teeth pulled is going STRAIGHT to jail, and doctor that dared to suggest I eat less and lose weight? Burned at the stake.

Puppets of big pharma? You are aware that there is more than one drug company in the world right? even if they were in the pockets of big pharma they would still be working towards the goal of building better treatments to out perform their rival doctors that were employed by rival drug companies.

Doctor's are people, and people can be corrupt, greedy, cruel, and evil. It doesn't mean they all are.

Grow up.

<LOL at this seriously messed up rant from a kid who knows absolutely nothing.>

"They seriously don't know anything." - Yes, doctors never said they did. That's why research is ongoing for cures and new drugs and on why diseases happen. Compare this to the chiropractor who claims that all diseases are caused by spinal misalignment. How about the acupuncturist who believes meridians exist? How about the herbalist who will give you herbs that have not been studied but since it's been used by ancients, it should work?

A doctor will always tell you that they don't know even if it means you'll never go to him again. An alt med quack will tell you anything just to please you.

"They're just people who happened to pass medical school classes" - Oooh, looks like someone's bitter that other people are smarter or work harder than they did. How is this a bad thing? Medical school is hard and passing classes ARE an achievement.

"They don't cure chronic disease." - Which ones are we talking about? How about giving me a specific disease and I'll tell you if it has a cure and why there still is no cure if there are none.

"People get hooked on drugs" - Excuse me what? I don't have patients begging me for addicting antibiotics or antihypertensive medicines. You're talking out of your butt again, little one.

"No training in nutrition" - You mean your bogus nutrition courses wherein you claim food is medicine? We have nutrition in biochemistry where we learned about proteins, carbs and fats, and vitamins and minerals. Also, we have dietitians to refer to when we need special diets. Talked out of your butt again? You betcha.

"Natural medicine works better than drugs" - Examples please. Many herbs and plants can be sources of medicines. However, their main disadvantage is that we cannot control the dose and we don't have a pure medicine to give to the patient. Homeopathy, chiro, crystal healing, acupuncture ARE NOT natural healing modalities.

"Puppets for big pharma" - For a college student you sure are stupid enough to believe this conspiracy nonsense. Proof please or STFU.

Why do people listen to doctors? Because doctors have the education, the training and the clinical experience to help you with your medical problems.

I don't think they do. I've never seen anyone pray to a doctor, donate 10% of their earnings to a doctor, kill an infidel for a doctor, etc. That is an argument from personal incredulity, however, so it may well have happened.

I do think they concede that doctors are "experts" in their field and afford them the authority that comes with that

"They seriously don't know everything. They're just people who happened to pass medical school classes and try to act like they know everything"

That is a straw man argument (look it up).

"They do not even try to cure chronic disease at all, or educate people on prevention of disease to begin with"

This a fabrication (lie). See any number of "Walk/Run for the Cure" organizations, which raise money for research (or maybe it's a conspiracy). As for warning people about prevention, smoking is an obvious one, obesity another.

"They mainly just prescribe drugs for people to spend their money on and get hooked on"

They will prescribe potentially addictive drugs to people with severe pain.

"They receive practically no training in nutrition which is an enormous factor."

Dietitians do exist.

"It is illegal for them to even suggest natural medicine, which can work much better than drugs."

Define "natural" for me. Exercise is natural. If you mean herbs, I'd ask that you provide evidence for this. Of course some doctors prescribe "natural" medicine, some push it to the level of "quackery."

"They are simply puppets of big pharma."

Yeah, yeah. Pharma shill gambit, a classic.

"I am a college student at a top university and not a nutcase. I am taking all the pre-med classes and was actually planning to become a medical doctor until I learned how corrupt this business can be"

Argument from false authority.

some have saved lives, such as trauma surgeons. many have taken lives, mostly though prescription medications. it seems most are motivated by greed, which they rationalize by the delusion that they are somehow superior beings. overall, most might be described as overpaid drug peddlers who's occupation is to mickey-mouse some kind of temporary "fix" of the patient's symptoms while, unfortunately, simultaneously causing more health problems, and never finding or correcting the cause of the patient's illness.truth is, most any dufus can dope someone into temporary anesthesia from their pain, many sick people do it for themselves with over the counter drugs or alcohol. it takes a real doctor to find and correct the root cause of the problem so the patient can regain their health.

people are kissing up to doctors :) if your a stoner you would appericate them more because they have the power to provide you with drugs that you can get high off of or even better sell hahaha

i <3 oxys

personal experience

They should not be treated as though they know everything because they most certainly do not. Some doctors are extremely condescending and arrogant and believe they are masters of the universe (again - they are not). They prescribe drugs in abundance because it is the only way they can make their money. Disease maintenance and symptoms management. That's all. One big fat CONN. Prescribing drugs to people who could recover and get better by other means is totally and utterly wrong, irresponsible and immoral. These people will get what's coming to them one day - mark my words. Give it time...tick tock...tick tock...;) Read the following article:

Hardly free from fault are they? Yet they are so 'holier than now'. What a joke (and a very funny one at that).
