Anyone ever had an inner ear infection?!

Question: Anyone ever had an inner ear infection?
Hi all.

About 8 days ago I was taken to the ER because I was sooo dizzy that I could not stand up or even open my eyes, the room was spinning and to top it off, I was 9 months pregnant. My doctor said he suspected I had an inner ear infection and gave me a patch, scopamine (Im sure I spelled that wrong) that I wore behind my ear for three days. He sent me home with another one, but I ended up in the hospital and having a c-section Monday. My baby is born, a healthy baby boy, but I still have symptoms of the inner ear infection. My doctor just keeps giving me the patches, I am on my fourth one, which I have to take off tomorrow. I'm afraid when I take it off, the room is going to start spinning again since I am still unbalanced as of now. Im taking byenadril (I know I spelled that wrong also) as my doctor suggested it may help as well. My question is, has anyone suffered an inner ear infection before (without having pain in the ear) and how long did it last? I cannot even hold my baby because I am afraid I will drop him due to the imbalance I feel. For a few days things were blurry with my vision, but that has gotten better, but I am still dizzy and cannot walk straight. I have also started to feel some warmth and a little pain in one of my ears. I am sooooo afraid, my doctor said if it didn't clear up by Monday, then to call him. I was just wondering if anyone had experience with inner ear infections and how long it lasted? Thanks everyone! Happy New Year to you all!!

Yes indeed, I was taken to the doctor several times. I was dizzy, I felt as if I were drunk. The doctor said that was caused by inner ear infection. He gave me McKlicine, you can buy it OTC. It put you to sleept. I was about two days without been able to walk. After that they found out I had a bad ear infection and I had to have surgery where they insert a little tube inside the ear for two years. If you feel dizzy put the baby on the cripp and call the doctor asap. I hope everything get well. It's not something to be worry about, except carrying the the baby. HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Yeah I did, there was pressure build up and I got a huge headache. I was also dizzy. I took some medicine for it and it went away after a few days but every once in a while it comes back, always in my left ear. The wax is also way too dry in that ear.

ME!!! I had it twice ( the first time was horrible let me tell you...)

woke up litterally sat up at 1am, started screaming because it was HORRIBLE...it was blocked and gave me a peircing pain in my ear, i started to cry, and i couldnt lie down or sleep because it hurt more. my mum took me to the GP gave me anti biotics and after about 3 weeks i was good. but hell, i cried so much because it literally STOPPED me from eating or drinking for 3 days...i lost my apatite for a while...and i got pale.

i hope ur okay :)

and yeah the second time wasnt bad, it lasted about a day and then my mum gave me more anti biotics....YAY

past experience

I had one so bad my eardrum was about to burst. I was pretty young but I remember the pain, dizzyness and other horrible feelings that go with it. Mine lasted a week and a half - I remember the doctor gave me some liquid and stuff for it but being as stubborn as I was back then my mom had a hard time making me take it. It's also not a good idea to take many medications while breast feeding.

The best thing I can suggest is: Pump your breast milk. It will relieve the pressure and you can store it in the freezer if the baby isn't eating it fast (which I think he will lol). Once you've pumped, take some acetaminophen for achiness and it is shown to reduce inflammation in your body. Doctors usually suggest not breast feeding babies when taking even the slightest medication because of course whatever you have in your system is passed to the baby via breast feeding. Sweet Oil - typically Olive Oil is usually used warmed to soothe general pain. My mom would put it in my ear and although it was an icky feeling the warmth would help ease my ear and it also dissolves your natural ear wax with it over time (put a clean sterile cotton ball as a stopper and to help muffle sounds so your eardrum isn't irritated more). If you're not into the mess, warm a heating pad (I prefer the ones that are full of the little beads and some soothing herbs you put in the microwave). Be careful either is not too hot. And also, if you have a hole in your eardrum or suspect one do NOT put any warm oil or anything liquid in there as it will create a highway for bacteria to enter the middle ear and even further causing serious infection that can cause deafness. It's not comfortable or safe to rinse your ear a lot (water or otherwise) while it's inflamed but the oils are natural and usually absorbed by your body. Rinsing while your ear is hurting should only be done by the doctor if he/she deems it necessary to remove bacteria. If you are worried about dropping the baby, sit in a cushy chair with big soft arms, put a firm pillow or two on your lap, and place the baby there. Make sure the chair slightly leans back that way if you don't have full control, worst case the baby falls into your boobs :) No harm done unless you're tender lol. Try this all at your own risk, and I do hope it helps you as much as it helped me. Congratz by the way on the newborn.
