Taking an herbal tincture gives you such a small dose of alcohol that it's unlikely to be a problem, except perhaps if you have a history of liver disease or alcoholism or are taking medication that requires complete abstinence from alcohol. And if you have a history of liver disease or are taking other medication, St. John's wort might be contraindicated. Though tinctures are made with strong liquor, the amount you get in a dose is like a single sip of wine or less.

However, if you're taking St. John's wort internally, it works somewhat better if you take it in capsules or tea. Tincture is more useful for external uses.

Well, let's look at it this way. Most of those bottles are an ounce, 40% alcohol is about the same as a shot of vodka. So that entire bottle is about the same as a shot of vodka, and you are only taking a dropperful a couple times a day, right? Now I'm not rocket scientist, but I'm guessing you will be fine.

Happy New Year. I hope it really is happy for you.
