Hi Mimi, good question. I can understand your skepticism!

Homeopaths, especially in this forum, claim they can cure anything and everything. However in reality homeopathy has NEVER been shown to work for any condition, because it is nothing but water or sugar pills.... homeopathy contains no active ingredients.

Once you look into it you see that homeopathy is absurd nonsense, based on superstitious beliefs - like the more you dilute something, the more potent it becomes. For example, a typical homeopathic 30C potency means a dilution ratio of 10 to the power of 60, about equivalent to 1ml in 1.2 million cubic light years! It will not contain one single molecule of the original ingredient, so it cannot possibly have any physiological effect.

Remedies are selected based on your symptoms; homeopaths believe that ‘like cures like’, so if you have insomnia for example, homeopaths will often give you a remedy made from Coffea, which is made from the coffee bean. It seems they think that recreating the symptoms empowers your body’s ‘vital force’ to expel disease. This concept lacks any scientific basis, supporting factual evidence or coherent rationale.

Not surprisingly, homeopathy has no good evidence of efficacy. It has never been shown in rigorous studies to have an effect beyond placebo. In the UK, Government health system funding of homeopathy is being withdrawn as homeopathic clinics and hospitals are closing. The country's largest pharmacy retailer has admitted it doesn't work and scientists have called it witchcraft.

AVOID.

EDIT: @homer price, homeopathy has been research extensively. Enough is enough, no more money should be waisted on it. The results are clear. It DOESN'T work.

For a change you switch from allopathy to homeopathy?

Just for a change?

That's a strange reason.
Just as the queston : is something genuine?

Seems also strange to me.

Study and practise buddhism.
Vipassana is as pure as mathematics, the ONLY thing worth to be called SCIENCE.

With the SIMPLE UNDERSTANDING you will acquire,
you will be able to evaluate as well homeopathy as fake mainstream medicine.

There is also some true mainstream medicine, of course.

That is what you should go for,

Homeopathy does work...BUT...there are ONLY A FEW ailments that can be treated and/or prevented by the use of homeopathy. One such ailment that can be prevented (not cure) is the flu using a homeopathic nosode. I would not trust homeopathy for other ailments. I have been using homeopathy for flu prevention for several years, and have yet to have the flu so I do know. It is unfortunate that the people selling homeopathy are marketing the treatment as a cure-all (it's like selling antibiotics as a cure for diabetes). More research needs to be done. But this certainly won't happen unless something is done about those who are selling homeopathy, the ones making false claims and thus, giving homeopathy a bad reputation. Then, and only then, can we start researching homeopathy from scratch, learning what its benefits are, it's limitations, and proper ways to use it.

Also...homeopathy does NOT cure dehydration. In fact, the only homeopathic remedies I have ever used are dry solid pellets, not exactly the sort or stuff I would touch if I were dehydrating. Also, I have found the optimal dilution is around 9 to 12C, not 30C.

Homeopathy is a 200 year old system of medicine that is the second largest form of medicine used worldwide. It treats the whole person (holistic) and it's safe, gentle and effective.
What you're describing is not Homeopathy and depending on the condition it may not "take months". Multiple remedies are not given at the same time. Most conventonal MD's know very little if anything about Homeopathic treatments -- it's not their field.

Homeopathy has been around for approximately 200 years, and it hasn't evolved as our understanding of physiology (how the body works) and physics has increased. The law of similars (like cures like) is a core principle in homeopathy. From present day understanding of physiology we know, that this principle has no biological basis, but this was not self evident 200 years ago.

It is also a misnomer to call it a holistic system. A homeopath prescribes remedies based on symptoms. And the more symptoms you have, the more remedies will be prescribed. It is a symptom based system in the extreme - not a holistic system.

Another core principle is, that the effect gets stronger the more the remedy is diluted (and shaken vigorously (succussed)). From present day knowledge, we know that nothing else in nature gets stronger when diluted and succussed. But again this was not self evident 200 years ago. Today we understand, that something that has an effect in concentrated form will not have this effect if sufficiently diluted. And homeopathic remedies are so diluted, that not a single molecule of the original substance is present.

I am guessing, that you are taking your remedy in form of pills. I am not sure if they did that 200 years ago, but if they didn't, this is an absurdity of modern homeopathy. At some point in the manufacturing process, a water (the diluted and succussed remedy) is dripped on the pill, which is then left to dry. Today we understand, that when the pill is dry, the water has evaporated.

Many diseases waxes and wanes, so if a homeopath says it can take months to work he will be correct in many instances, but not because of the remedies. Part of the effect some people experience from taking homeopathy is attributable to the placebo effect. To know if homeopathy works beyond waxing/waning and placebo you have to to "Randomised blinded placebo controlled studies". When you do that, it turns out, that homeopathy can't do anything that any other placebo can't do.

So homeopathy is based on 200 years old ideas, that present day understanding tells us are wrong. The pills are without the "active" substance (The pills are dry), and studies without bias are unable to demonstrate any effect beyond placebo of the homeopathic remedies.

It depends on what you are treating. Plus, when it comes to homeopathy you really need a spcialist who is good at it. That's why I opted for integrative medicine(insurance pays for it if the doctor is also a primary physician). That way I do get what I need---because there are a few things where we just cannot avoid taking serious medications, i.e. antibiotics, prednosine etc.etc. The point for me is that I will try a natural approach before I resort to heavy medication. For example, high cholesterol usually gets treated with statins---I told my doctor that I would like to try the natural approach first---and it worked better than statins. There are natural remedies for a lot of things out there---but like I said, sometimes they don't work. I have 2 herniated discs in my back and do get occasional flare ups of inflammation and pain, even though I go to chiropractice every week---those are ailments where I don't see natural medicine to work....

Homeopathy is totally fake, it's a nonsense invented to take money from the gullible.

Homeopathy is NOT used in hospitals and most homeopaths have no medical training or knowledge about human biology. Go to a real medical doctor, not a con man.

If you're sick see your doctor and ask him about the validity of homeopathic "medications".

"There has been a real shift in the way people think about their health," says Andrew Weil, M.D., a teacher of alternative medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tuscon, founding director of the university's Center for Integrative Medicine and a physician emphasizing natural and preventive medicine.

"At the same time, they're realizing that conventional medicine is expensive and sometimes dangerous-and not always effective."

I. might also add that sometime there may not always be a short answer when it concern your health.

While the term alternative medicine may conjure up some pretty exotic images, many of those therapies are more familiar than you think.

If you've ever massaged your temples to ease a headache, applied an ice pack to a spained ankle or listened to your car radio to de-stress during a traffic jam, you've already practiced some simple natural healing techniques.

Homeopathy, which is derived from two Greek words, literally means "similar suffering." Although the concept date back to at least the tenth century B.C., modern homeopathy is based on the observations of Samuel Hahnemann, an eighteenth-century German physician.

Today, more than 1,200 substances are recognized as homeopathic remedies.

These remedies are diluted so that 1 drop of medicine is mixed with either 9 or 99 drops of a soluution that is 87 percent alcohol and 13 percent distilled water, creating a dilution of 1 to 10 or 1 to 100, Dr. Meletis says.

This mixture is vigorously shaken. then 1 drop of the mixture is diluted an shaken into another 9 or 99 drops of solution. After about 24 dilutions, there usuall isn't one molecule of the original homeopathic medicine left in the solution, Dr. Meletis says.

This process, however, often continues for 1,000 or more dilutions and shakings to increase the solution's potency, homeopaths say.

So, in refference to the research stated above My answer is yes I think the treatments are gunuine

note:
"Herbs by themselves can only be exepted to do so much. For optimal results they should be used in the context of a natural whholesome diet, ample exercise and rest, a positive attitude, fulfilling work, and a simple lifestyle, says BatMan."

"This combination will amost always have a favorable influence on one's health and often induces healing...where modern medicine has failed. However, it must be understood that there can never be any guarantees that herbs will always help or heal every health problem for which they are indicated, says BatMan."

There is no form of medicine, herbal or otherwise, that can make such a guarantee.
