Natural Cold Remedies?!

Question: Natural Cold Remedies?
Ok, shocker, I have a cold, like most people:) I've got a annoying chesty cough and a runny nose, you know, all the basic symptos. Its VERY annoying and I want a homemade natural remedy that actually works. I don't want answers like Honey + Lemon, trust me Ive tried and has done nothing. So please please can i have a homemade natural rememdy for runny noses and a cough?

Many thanks.

My attitude is: 'give me something natural that works, and doesn't have anything to do with the pharmaceutical industry".

When my daughter had bronchial pheumonia for about three months, I started looking about for an answer because the doctors had already given her 14 antibiotic treatements within the first two years of her life...and I wanted to just stop the sinus, ear and lung infections... and stop the use of antibiotics.

I came across an Ayurvedic doctor who recommended she eat a diet which would 'dry up' her excess build up of fluids. He recommended green pea/or lentil soup every day with green string beans and unleavened, whole wheat, 'flat' bread. If you have ever seen green pea or lentil soup about two hours after you've cooked it, you will notice that it has absorbed the moisture and become like a jelly. So, like that, the soup absorbs the excess fluids in the body that seem to create the runny nose, and lung fluid build-up. He also recommended cut barley cereal for breakfast, tumeric and honey in the cinnamon tea, no dairy products, no rice or potatoes or starchy foods...during the next ten days.

My daughter's case was extreme and took eight days to clear up her bronchial/lung fluid build up.

Nowadays, I would recommend taking five to ten thousand IUs of Vitamin D3 daily. Vitamin D3 is the sunshine vitamin, and most flu and colds occur when there is lack of sunshine. 3000 IUs of Vit D3 is equal to 15 minutes of real sunshine exposure.
Next, I would slow down on the sugar, white flour and dairy products. These just feed the cold symptoms.
Finally, I recommend taking colloidal silver (a couple of teaspoons a day) because silver solution is anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-biotic.
Whenever I feel any stuffiness in the sinuses....or have worked in a dusty atmosphere...I cleanse my sinuses with a warm water/sea salt solution and use a "Neti Pot" (nasal cleansing pot). You can search out how to use a 'neti pot' on Youtube. It is the quickest way to rid the sinuses of potential infection. Bend your head down afterwards to drain any water still sitting in your sinuses.

You are talking to someone whom colds and flu do not see the light of day with.

There is NO cure for the common cold. The reason is that it is a fast mutating virus. It mutates so fast, that by the time you develop immunity (which you DO develop in a few days, by the way), it has mutated enough in other people so your immunity no longer works to protect you. Once you get over the cold, you are immune to THAT strain, plus all of the other strains that you caught in the past. All you can do is relieve some of the symptoms while your immune system fights a biological war in your bloodstream. Stay warm, rest, lots of fluids and let your body get on about doing the business of winning the war in your bloodstream. NOTHING else is effective, except for maybe some anti-histamines and aspirin... By the way, aspirin IS completely NATURAL as it is extracted from PLANTS, exactly like apple juice is extracted from apples.... Tylenol, however, is completely man-made.

For the cough, you could try BronchoPhase, but even with the product in hand, it takes about a week to clear up. They do ship quickly. http://www.puretango.com/bronchophase.ht…

Rhinoviruses cause about half of all colds in adults, Hendley says. You acquire the virus by getting it on your hand and then touching your nose or eyes, he says. "The virus doesn't usually go through the air," Hendley says. "You usually get it on the finger and you inoculate yourself. Just being in the air space [with an infected person or the virus] is not enough."

Besides hand washing, breathing in humidified air and increasing your fluid intake may also help, Blandino says.

Whatever natural remedy you use, the effects on the cold will be minimal, cautions Gwaltney. Of natural cold remedies, he says: "They're not as effective as commercial cold remedies" such as decongestant, antihistamines, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Patience could pay off, too, Blandino says. "You can't cure the cold," he says. "[But] most of them are gone within 10 days."

I hope you feel better soon.

mint leaves/mint tea... I personallydont like mint tea so I drink earl grey or green tea it gets rid of the chills and congestion. also I know it sounds weird but It works extremely well mint gum the chewing gets the pressure out of your ears and the mint gets rid of congestion.

Another. Warm chocolot milk with honey. it tastes good, gets rid of congestion, and makes you fall asleep so you can sleep through your cold. :) hope I helped

hi,
the 3 best things you can do are as much sleep as possible +a nice piece of beef like rump steak for example or anything with iron in it +an orange at the end of a meal or anything with vitamin C this works for me everytime and for my son as well, doing exercise makes it better as well. But if it is an infection you better go see your doctor for antibiotics.
best wishes

This is not really a remedy but advice, my mum always use to say 'feed a cold and starve a fever' so when I had my last cold I ate loads of food and my cold was gone in 3 days, but you have to eat everyday not just one day.

Echinacea tea has been used as remedy for colds and other respiratory ailments for a long time. You might want to read up on it.

A lot of vitamin C helps.

You won't like it but garlic and milk was a remedy my grandmother used to cure us when we were children - still hate the taste of it but really works miracles. Hope you'll get better fast!

I find that taking two showers a day helps. It's really odd but the steam really does work wonders!
