Even though methadone can be used to help get rid of addictions to certain drugs, people can sometimes become addicted to methadone itself. So then we are creating a whole new problem. Not only are they addicted to the other drug, but now they might get addicted to the new drug methadone that we are introducing to them. ALSO- There have been some cases in which people who were taking methadone hid the drug underneath their tongue and pretended to take it in order to go sell the methadone to other people on the street in order to get more money to buy for the drug that they are already addicted to.

So, in some cases it can be helpful, but in other cases, it can cause more problems. :/
