Are multivitamins good for depression?!

Question: Are multivitamins good for depression?
What I hear is that antidepressants don't work out for many people. I bought some multivitamins for teen girls the other day at the store. I don't know if it's tied into helping out your mood or not... I'm always in a bad mood, always beating myself up over what used to be my love life because I'm clinically depressed. Might this help?

Answers:

Yes, there has been a link shown between decreased depression symptoms and taking certain vitamins. But be careful; some things, like St. John's Wort, can be harmful to some people.

Having said that, that best thing you can do is to exercise daily for at least an hour. Plot a 3-4 mile walking route and make sure you do it most days of the week. I struggled with major depression for years and the only thing that helps is exercise. If I don't exercise for even a few days, I start getting depressed again. Now, I love taking my walks and crave them. I try to do them in the morning or afternoon if possible. I started doing this in my early twenties and I lost weight and started getting better grades in college!

Vitamins will always help in some way. If you've broken up with someone or had some other disappointment, vitamins won't make that better, but they will help to balance your chemicals a bit.

B vitamins are good for mood, but taking a variety will be better since they all work together to do different things.

Eating healthy is a better way to go and better than taking pills, but if you can't regularly eat well, supplements will do the job well enough.

Exercise will also help because it releases endorphins and the good feeling will last several hours after you've stopped your activity.

Finally, eating healthy and exercising, while good for the mind, is also good for the body, and if you're feeling physically well, that will be uplifting and will make you feel more appealing.

there good for your physical health, and i guess if physical health improves then maybe you will feel more mentally stable.
