What is the best OTC cough medicine for...?!

At times, my cough will be very dry and loud. Other times, I cough up a lot of mucus.(So much so that I will throw it up, literally) The cough medicines I have seen either say for mucus or for dry cough. Is there one that will help with both?
I need a day time one. Thanks.
(Also, if it is needed to know, I am a severe asthmatic and on a controlled inhaler.[it does not help my cough, it makes it worse])
