As others have said, Earl Grey contains caffeine. It's best avoided in the late afternoon and evening.

There are a lot of herbal teas that are good to drink before bedtime. I'd recommend tulsi tea (http://ratetea.net/style/tulsi/133/ ) or chamomile (http://ratetea.net/style/chamomile-tea/5… ). These are both relaxing, and will make space for you to sleep without actually making you sleepy. Valerian will make you sleepy. You may also want to look at passionflower, it also can reduce anxiety, although be warned it is also a bit of an aphrodisiac! I also would recommend lemon balm tea if you can get access to any.

About caffeine in tea:

it is chamomile tea you need to drink before bed not bergamot...the latter is stimulating as it does contain tea as well with bergamot as an additive.
by the way if you get chamomile 'tea' it usually doesnt contain 'tea' just chamomile flowers in the 'tea'bags. so no caffeine involved.
also you can buy some herbal teas (should be called infusions really) that contain a few soporific herbs including chamomile and valerian, which are good to take prior to bed to help you sleep.
sweet dreams.

I agree with the others. Earl Grey Tea is a great afternoon tea but it's a black tea so it has caffeine content.

For insomnia or sleeplessness, better alternatives are chamomile tea, catnip tea, lavender tea or passion flower tea taken just before bedtime.

While Early Grey tea may be soothing, it doesn't have anything that will actually help you with sleep. So anytime before bed is fine or anytime when you are feeling a little anxious as well.
I drink Sleepy Time Tea before bed, I really like it and it has a variety of teas and tastes great:

If it's caffeine free, just before bed.
Otherwise, never. Caffeine is a stimulant, not what you use for insomnia. Try a chamomile, valerian, or skullcap tea.

Earl Grey tea is high in caffeine. I don't recommend drinking it at all if you can't sleep.

Night time before bed..=)
