Supplements for PCOS?!

Question: Supplements for PCOS?
I am taking St. John's Wart, Valerian root (at night), and a daily vitamin. What other supplements would be helpful in improving my mood.

I am exercising every other day and I have lost about 40lbs int he past 3-4 months. I plan on loosing another 100.

I had poly-cystic ovarian syndrome. That condition caused me to become obese. I had surgery last year and I was cured! I am losing weight now and I am feeling better. I am not used to being this overweight, but since I am improving my body (and I am recovering from anemia [ I was on my period for 3 years Straight]) I just need little pick me ups when I am feeling down.

Any suggestions?

Answers:

None of the above for starters. St John's wort (not wart) does have very mild anti-depressant activity similar to SSRI's like Paxil, but also has the same risk of side effects, and needs to be monitored closely by a physician.

Valerian has no proven efficacy for anything, and the problem with all herbals is there is no quality control or regulation, so who the hell knows what is actually in the tablets you buy.

Supplements are generally a waste of time and money if you eat a healthy balanced diet.

You sound like you are already doing very well with your science and evidence based treatments, why would you want to change that?
