Question: What cures are there for hyperthyroidism?
im going to consult my doctor as i believe i have hyperthyroidism.
i was wondering what type of treatments will they offer? pills? natural advise? or anything else
i'd like to know so i know what more to expect when i go there.

Answers:

I had hyperthyroidism, you really need to go to the doctor, untreated hyperthyroidism can be really bad, I ended up in hospital with a thyroid storm because when I first found out I had it they never gave me medication.

Also stay away from Kale because it contains lots of iodine

vegetables like brocolli, calliflower and spinach is good as it can suppress thyroid hormone cos with hyperthyroidism your thyroid is producing too much

You really do need to see a doctor though.

For most forms of hyperthyroid disease, no, they will not go away. Not treating most forms of hyperthyroid can be very dangerous. Initially it can lead to an irregular heat beat, worsening heart failure, and chest pain. Eventually it can lead to high blood pressure, irregular heartbeats, overly strong and fast heartbeats, possible severe emotional disorders, and even heart failure. When the hyperthyroid condition gets this bad, it's called a thyroid crisis or thyroid storm. Stay out of the bad thyroid weather - don't ignore this disease! It can kill you. Get it taken care of.

A. Subtotal thyroidectomy. Adequate preparation is of the utmost importance. One or two days are generally necessary for adequate preparation: one of the thiouracil groups of drugs alone, or, preferably, a thiouracil plus iodine. The sympatholytic agent propranolol has been used successfully as the sole agent before surgery. This drug, however, does not return the patient to a normal metabolic rate, and most experts prefer to render the patient euthyroid prior to surgery.
B. Continuous propylthiouracil therapy (medical treatment). Control of hyper-
thyroidism with propylthiouracil alone is often the treatment of choice, especially in young people, who are not good candidates for 1311 therapy. The advantage is that it avoids the risks and postoperative complications of surgery, e.g. myxedema,
hypoparathyroidism. The disadvantage is the remote possibility of toxic reactions plus the necessity of watching the patient carefully for signs of hypothyroidism. Since the advent of propylthiouracil, it appears that the incidence of toxic reactions is slight.
C. Radioactive iodine (13l1). The administration of radioiodine has proved to be an excellent method for destruction of over-functioning thyroid tissue (either diffuse or toxic nodular goiter). The rationale of treatment is that the radioiodine, being concentrated in the thyroid, will destroy the cells that concentrate it. The only objections to date to radioiodine therapy are the possibility of carcinogenesis and the possibility of damage to the genetic pool of the individual treatment. Studies to date have failed to show evidence of these effects. Nevertheless, the use of radioiodine is generally limited to older age group; however, the age level is not absolute and some children may be best treated with radioiodine. Do not use this drug in pregnant women. A high incidence of hypothyroidism several years after this form of treatment has recently been recognized, but this has also been found in patients treated in other ways and may be the natural course of the disease. Prolonged follow-up, preferably with T4 and TSH measurements, is therefore mandatory. There is a greater tendency toward higher dosage redioiodine ablation of the toxic gland with subsequent permanent replacement therapy with thyroid hormone, rather than using smaller doses initially, which may require retreatment and may still fail to prevent appearance of myxedema several years later.
D. Lithium. Lithium carbonates alone or as adjunct to radioiodine therapy has been investigated recently. The results are not promising.
