To deter mosquitoes and other biters. Try putting drops of lavender essential oil on the edges of cuffs of pyjamas and\or night clothes. The same oil can also be used in a spray or with carrier oil to smooth over exposed skin. Lavender is also useful to take the itch out of bites, should you get them, just use neat on a cotton bud dotted onto the bite.

Making the spray is simple all you need is:

- Pure Lavender Essential Oil.
- Mist spray bottle.
- Distilled or purified water

Just fill the bottle with 4 fluid ounces (or 120 ml) of the purified water. Add about 40 drops of the lavender essential oil to the water, put the cap on the bottle and shake well, and use as required (remember to shake the bottle prior to each application).

If you would like to make a larger or smaller amount, simply adjust the proportions

Hope this helps!

There is a natural bed bug repellent available that can be sprayed on the bed or on the skin. It is made from plant extracts - it is called Bed Bug Repellent (see resource 1).

The diatomaceous earth (also called fossil dust) mentioned by another responder is not a repellent, but will kill insects when the fine powder attaches to their outer layer. It is not 100% (nor is any repellent), and may take a little while to work. You can spread a thin layer of fossil dust in the seams and tufts of the mattress, and the bed frame to help keep insects away.

Diatomaceous earth is the most natural and safe insect repellant/killer, but you cannot really spray it. It's more for crawling bugs, like ants, roaches, bedbugs, etc.

Cedar, lemongrass/citronella, pennyroyal, and wormwood all have bug repellent qualities, but they are not guaranteed to keep the bugs off. THey merely discourage them from hanging around.

Diatomaceous earth would work. But I think you should start with identifying what kind of bug problem you have. The more information you can gather and ask would help people identify more with your problem. If you have a bed bug problem you can start by finding the source of your problem by looking for reddish brownish markings around your bed area on fabrics and materials. They typically begin rite within the mattress.
