no. its not an opiate.
nor is it a sleep aid.

Its paroxetene, an SSRI or anti-depressant.

Paxil is an ssri anti depressant.

Im not a doctor, but unless your sleep issues are depression related, I would not go on an ssri as a sleep aid.

I would go towards benedryal (the sleep aid in most over the counter sleep aids), melatonin, warm milk, behavioral changes such as setting up a bed time routine, getting up and going to bed at the same time. Rx wise, I had luck with restoril, but not so much with lunesta or ambien.

I didnt really see uses for it for sleep, but im not a doc and that was just a quick google search. If you are taking it, make sure you do NOT stop without consulting your doctor.

Fibromyalgia, a condition for which no cure exists, is characterized by pain, stiffness, numbness, tingling and areas of tenderness in the muscles, ligaments and tendons in the body. Other symptoms include restless extremities, headaches and gastrointestinal problems. Emotional distress and sleep disturbances often develop in response to these physical symptoms. Both conventional and alternative drug therapies may be utilized to relieve the many symptoms of fibromyalgia.
