A Nutritionist / Dietitian has a 4 year college degree in nutrition.
Dietitians are essentially people who study the science of food with regards to its breakdown in terms of nutritional elements and determine the optimum dietary recommendations for people according to their unique individual requirements.
No. Although it is a common misunderstanding that a nutritionist and a dietitian are one and the same, there is a major difference between being a nutritionist and being a dietitian.
To become a certified dietitian students are required to pursue a bachelor’s degree in dietetics, food and nutrition, food service systems management, or a related area. A two years master’s course in dietetics is also one of the pre-requisites to become an accredited dietitian. Nutritionist courses are also available which are slightly different from the dietitian courses.

A nutritionist is someone who is interested in nutrition.

You don't need any qualification or specialist knowledge to become a nutritionist, the title is not protected and anyone can call themselves a nutritionist.

I'm a nutritionist. Tomorrow I might decide to become a naturopathic doctor, holistic practitioner or any number of non-protected titles that people throw around willy-nilly.

People are using dietitian and nutritionist as if they are interchangeable, they're not. A dietitian has a minimum of a Bachelors Degree, and their standards of practice are regulated nationally. A nutritionist is an unprotected qualification, meaning anyone of varying qualifications can call themselves one.

I guess a nutritionist pretends they are a dietitian.

A Nutritionist / Dietitian has a 4 year college degree in nutrition.

On the other side of that, I am a Certified Personal Trainer and Nutrition Coach. A Nutrition Coach is someone that has a background in nutrition and gives general guidance for non-clinically supervised clients. For example: As a nutrition coach I can help people with type 2 diabetes, but not someone with type 1 because they are insulin dependent and need more trained supervision. As a Nutrition Coach I'm able to offer general guidance on how to make better choices, meal planning using Diet Master software (created by a Registered Dietitian and coach them for weight loss.
