CAN"T SLEEP so I'm thinking about taking a Calcium and Magnesium suppl!

Question: CAN"T SLEEP so I'm thinking about taking a Calcium and Magnesium supplement as studies have shown the two?
combined help people to fall asleep. I'm considering the Nature's Made one, but it has zinc and vitamin D.

Does anyone know if this works for them? If it does when should I take it and what brand is a good, safe brand. ANY HELP WOULD BE AMAZING!!

I"m also considering some other sleep methods combined with this one like drinking chamomile tea.

try Melatonin. it's over the counter & natural. it'll help you sleep, believe me.

There's a few things you could try - maybe a certain combination would help you!

Chamomile tea, lavender oil, no caffeine after lunch, not eating after 7pm, try not being in front of computer or TV right up till bed time... all these could help.

I have also used hypnosis CD's or binaural beats on my iPhone. Everything seems to work for a while, and then stops.

The one thing though that helps me most of the time, is wearing my scalar pendant. I've found it helps me get to sleep easier but on the nights that I lie awake all night - I'm actually not overly tired the next day!

So for me, I use the pendant, sometimes will have a chamomile or 'sleepy time' tea, iPhone app and my aromatherapy 'Sleep Myst' are the biggies for my sleep routine.

Oh, remove sources of light from your room and make it as dark as possible. Also, get rid of the electric alarm clock next to you if you have one, The EMF's it emits can cause sleeplessness.

Try and stay away from medication if you can. SO not healthy.

Hope you find something that works for you soon :)

Supplement wise, I would choose GABA and melatonin and Valerian Root. Calcium and Magnesium aren't really sleep aids. I'm not sure what studies you are referring to, sorry.

Chamomile teas is good. Warm chocolate milk (not the cafinated hot chocolate kind).

I also came across foods to eat in the hours before bedtime on yahoo today:

Take something with diphenhydramine like Benadryl or Unisom, avoid products like TylenolPM unless you also have a headache or something because they also contain acetaminophen and it is hard on your liver, especially if you take it often.

Meditate before bed or concentrate on relaxing every part of your body one part at a time starting with your feet.

No TV in the bedroom. The only things that should occur in the bedroom are sleeping and sex.

Use aromatherapy, lavendar is soothing and they make a spray for sheets that helps relax you, I think I bought mine at Target.

It's the magnesium that's calming -- as a matter of fact one powdered magnesium supplement is called "Calm" (imagine that). Zinc and D3 with magnesium are necessary for proper calcium absorption.
Benadryl is an allergy medication that makes people drowsy. It's hardly the answer. You're likely to feel groggy when you wake up.

Calcium Citrate and Magnesium citrate are much more effective than cheap supplements. The cheap supplements consist of calcium carbonate and magnesium oxide.. they are basically just ground up chalk. The human body doesn't do all that great at absorbing cheap supplements, as they are unlike anything that would be found in any natural food.

The powders typically work better than the capsules, as they are already in a liquid form.

I buy powdered calcium and magnesium citrate, and stir them into water. Here's a link to the product I usually purchase. Also note I've got a level 5 account - this isn't a spam answer.

try Ionic fizz...it's a powder and it works really fast for me. the tablets take a long time to dissolve etc. you can find it on the net. there's 2 different formulas...Calcium Plus and magnesium plus. I asked my local heath food store to special order it for me.

I don't sell this stuff etc. I have used many products over the years and find this to be the best.

The Zinc and D isn't going to prevent you from falling asleep - but the calcium and magnesium aren't going to help you sleep as much as you like.

I would suggest a very small dose of melatonin, or benedryl.
