Question: How much benefiber should I take? Please help!!?
Hey guys, so my doctor told me that I needed to increase my fiber intake.He said I need to take at least 9 grams of fiber in the morning. I think I should start taking benefiber. I am a girl, I'm 16 years old, and I weigh 132 pounds. By looking at the nutrition facts, it looks like I need to take about 5 teaspoons of benefiber a day. This is a lot of this product.

Do you think this is really what I should be doing?

Benefibre is a soluble fibre. Just take the recommended dose on the product label to start. Since it's soluble it's not as problematic as insoluble fibre can be when you're not used to that much fibre.
Taking too much when you're not used to it can clog you up and cause worse problems than you already have. It's not a race. Take your time and increase the dose by about 5 grams every week.
Taking probiotic supplements is also a great help, esp. if you've ever taken antibiotics. Yogurt only contains trace amounts of probiotics.



An easier way to increase fiber is to have a bowl of oatmeal or mulit-grain bread toast in the morning for breakfast. If you do this you can each the extra 9 grams with a simple pill in the aim instead of tons of benefiber. I would recommend "Yerba Prima" Daily Fiber Caps with the oatmeal or toast.



No. Eat two pleas of whole fruit, like an apple and a banana. You can blend it into a smoothie with some yogurt or milk and ice.



I would suggest eat a whole plate of plain steamed broccoli at night with your supper.
