Questions about anaesthesiologists?!

Question: Questions about anaesthesiologists?
I am 320lbs but told the anaesthesiologist that I am 280lbs. I am going to correct that but what can that cause?

Answers:

Contrary to popular belief, weight has very little to do with the dosages of drugs that we give, outside of pediatrics. Many are does on "ideal body weight", and whether you are 280 or 320, you far exceed IBW.

What we usually do is to give drugs a little at a time until we achieve the desired effect. There is a lot of variation among individuals, so that is one way we keep people safe.

It's likely that you will be weighed on the day of surgery anyway. Your weight puts you at increased risk for anesthetic complications, but there isn't much you can do about that at this point.

Good luck with your surgery; I hope all goes well for you.

I'm an anesthesiologist.

That is not a good idea. The main reason is most of anesthesia medication dosages are based upon age- so cutting out 40 lbs could cut out part of your dose. I will leave the imagining up to you as to what can happen There is no point in lying to the doctor the more they know the more they can help.

inaccurate weight will mean inaccurate dosing. You may feel the surgery. might be paralyzed with a huge tube down your throat on life support for the surgery, unable to move open your eyes talk or scream..and you will feel the cutting and poking and sewing.
Im sure that prior to the surgery they will take an accurate weight on you. But better tell the anesthesiologist before you go under.

40 lbs? If they don't drug you enough, you could wake up during a procedure and hilarity/horror could ensue.

They measure the amount of drug you get by your weight.
