Been taking ambien for awhile, it is now starting to stop working, has this happ!

Question: Been taking ambien for awhile, it is now starting to stop working, has this happened to anyone else?
I've heard this may happen after a while. I'm kind of afraid to let tell my Dr, because he's not a big fan of sleep meds at all and I know he hates giving me the ambien, so i'm scared if I let him know its not working all the time, he might take me off sleep meds all together. It does still help on some nights, but i'm sure if I totally stopped all together, mentally in my head i'ld go nuts. Unfortunately I've been taking it a few years now and my body must be addicted. Any suggestions? Can tylenol PM be taken with this?

I never tried Ambien.
tried many things including Tylenol PM and same happened..I stopped fearing it would damage my liver or something.

So back to being an imsomniac !

Sleep medications really aren't the greatest for long term. I highly recommend working on other sleep hygiene issues that don't require meds. Keep a very normal schedule, with the same wake and bed time every day. Avoid caffeine in the afternoon. Make sure your bed is comfortable and the room is dark and the temperature is right. Exercise every morning. Don't drink alcohol. Don't use your bed for anything other than sleeping or sex (ie don't read or watch tv in bed). Have a sleep routine that helps you transition to sleep (don't play stimulating video games or television before you go to bed. Read a book or do something equally relaxing.) As far as thought, there are other activities to actually help like progressive relaxation tapes or performing a body scan, etc. Use the sleep meds to help you while you enact all of these other ideas, but it is best to not rely on them for the long term. They will usually continue to work for a short time and then your body will acclimate to them, requiring higher and higher doses or more medications...
