Adderall and Klonopin?!

Question: Adderall and Klonopin?
Hello Everyone,
I have a problem with my legs and can never stop moving them. I mean its only when I am sitting. I was thinking restless leg syndrome and the doctor thought so as well. He has me on 1mg Klonopin and have been taking that for about 6 months now. It works for about 20 min and then my legs go nuts again. However, I took one of my buddies Adderall because he takes it to get all wired and do homework but it did the opposite effect on me. When I took the Adderall I was really relaxed and my legs did not move. I didn't know what to make of it so I decided to post on here. I don't want to tell my doctor " O yeah me and my buddy swapped pills and his adderall actually clammed me down when he said it was going to keep me up." Just want to know if this is even true that adderall could clam you in the first place and what to tell my doctor if it actually works.

In response to what another person wrote, tremor is certainly not a side effect of Klonopin (clonazepam)- tremor is often treated with Klonopin.

Some people do experience paradoxical effects from drugs, for example some people take an amphetamine like Adderall (mixed amphetamine salts) and fall asleep. Also Adderall acts on the neurotransmitter dopamine, as do several drugs used for restless leg syndrome (RLS) including Mirapex (pramipexole), Requip (ropinirole), and Sinemet (carbidopa/levodopa). Requip is the most effective dopamine agonist for RLS and Sinemet has the most side effects. Requip and Mirapex are the only FDA approved drugs for RLS. Since the Adderall increases dopamine it could help. Or it is possible (but very unlikely) that you may have ADHD since people with ADHD tend to have more movement, respond well to stimulants, and typically people with ADHD become more relaxed on stimulants.

I really do think you should tell your doctor what happened. If you don't tell him then he won't be able to treat you properly because he does not have all the infomration. If you tell him it can allow him to re-evaluate and may make him think you have a different problem or may recommend different medications based on your response to Adderall. Also most doctors are not going to think you are bad, or an addict, or be extremely judgemental for trying Adderall. I see patients all the time who take a stimulant a friend gave them and they were able to do things much better. So many people seek treatment after illegally trying medication and most doctors don't hold that against a patient and if you are honest your doctor will trust you more.

There are several other medications that are often very effective including Catapres (clonidine), Dostinex (cabergoline), Neurontin (gabapentin), Tegretol (carbamazepine), Halcion (triazolam), Xanax (alprazolam), Restoril (temazepam), OxyIR (oxycodone), Dolophine (methadone), Ultram (tramadol), and codeine phosphate.

If your symptoms occur daily then most guidelines recommend Requip (ropinirole), Mirapex (pramipexole), Neurontin (gabapentin), or opioids primarily Ultram (tramadol) or codeine. If you experience pain then Neurontin and opioids are typically preferred.

Benzodiazepines like Klonopin (clonazepam), Halcion (triazolam), Xanax (alprazolam), and Restoril (temazepam) are typically best if the problem is worse at night or they may be added to other medication like Requip.

Then again if the Klonopin does help, even if it is just for a short time, then it might be good to increase the dose and potentially add another medication.
