Being Bipolar and Smoking pot.?!

Question: Being Bipolar and Smoking pot.?
Alright so a Buddie of mine has bipolar and his doctor
prescribed him Medical Marijuana, He said he feels great now.
i have Cyclothymia (minor Bipolar), Ive been on several different Medications;

Lithium
Klonopin
lamotrigine
Topamax

And none of them have worked
I was thinking of asking my doctor to put me on it too,
but could i make my symptoms worse?

i do smoke street pot on occasion (Not every day like once/twice a week.)
I just wanna know what you think.

Ps, Take your "Marijuana is a bad harmful" drugs and shove it too, ITs the only thing keeping
my cancer ridden Grandfather alive so he can deal with pain.

Answers:

marijuana likely has antidepressant effects (though our backwards drug laws don't allow for great studies...). If it is legal in your state, it is worth talking with your physician about proper use. There have been reports of it causing hypomanic symptoms in some, however, so you should look for those if you start it.

If street weed helps, than ask your doctor. I think medical marijuana is great for patients that need it.
Much safer than all those other medications.

It'd most likely chill you out. I really don't think it'd be prescribed for cyclothymia though.. Or else lots of people in the world would be smoking it.
