If you slit your wrists, is there a chance you could live?!

Question: If you slit your wrists, is there a chance you could live?
My friend killed himself in the hospital and his friend said to us that there is a 10% chance that he could still live. He slit his wrists so he said they are stitching it up and he's 99% dead. He's still alive but in a comatose state. Is this possible?

Answers:

Depends on the direction of the slits. Vertical slits are almost always irreparable. Horizontal slits are almost always non-lethal. If he's comatose, the damage will depend on oxygen deprivation to the brain. If he was dead longer than 10 minutes, he's likely going to be a veggie.

NOTE: This answer is in no way condoning any act of self-harm, nor do I recommend anyone test my theories. Cutting yourself in any way, shape, or form is dangerous, and could lead to other problems besides death. Such as infections, nerve damage, scarring, and blood poisoning.

Yes...it is absolutely possible! "Goofy.."'s answer really was accurate, but I think there's a bit of a danger in describing the method of cut, here. Anyone contemplating such an action should tell SOMEONE..even a total stranger. Even if you have to WHISPER the words. The relief from voices these thoughts is amazing & life altering. Prayers for your friend.

It depends on the direction of the cut.
Cutters don't phase me and just want attention - they really have no intention of dying.

If someone really wants to die - cut your carotid. :)
