Is Adderall XR messing with my personality?!

Question: Is Adderall XR messing with my personality?
I've been taking 30mg Adderall XR for about 4 months now (To help with my ADD). When I'm on it it helps me pay attention, keeps me focused, willing to learn/participate, and my overall thinking is more philosophical. BUT: My negative side effects are, A robot-like mindset, no urges to socialize, or crack jokes (like I used to) When I'm on it I feel like paying attention, or doing school work, and blocking out any distractions keeping me from being a social person. Previously I was a funny, outgoing, talkative person, with a witty personality. I feel like the old me is dead when I'm on adderall...It's scaring me. I don't want to lose my personality,it's not worth it-- even with the positive effects of the drug. I guess my question is, Can adderall alter personalities? Or is it just me going through a change? And if any of you have experienced this and gotten off the adderall has your old personality come back? I don't want to appear as an awkward, anti social, robotic kid who constantly is doing homework, or shunning all forms of entertainment/social behavior, so he can focus and learn. Is there any way to counter this side effect? THANKS

Answers:

Pretty much that is a side effect you can't escape. Maybe a change of medication to methylphenidate or methamphetamine (desoxyn) would help you. But this side effect is common to all stimulant medications, although I do hear that methylphenidate is a bit less robot-like. You probably cant escape this effect. Also raising dose can make you feel less zombie and more awake and witty, but at that point it is recreational so the doctors wont want to sustain a high dose.

Well actually adderrall is weird in that if you have ADD, it will help you pay attention but if you already pay attention well, being on it will make you extremely social. I have always paid attention in school easily and have always gotten good grades but I'm on Adderrall about once a month in school and I just can't stop talking. I just can't stop talking to do my work or pay attention. So it's different for different people.

Yes defentitly. What i would try is Small amounts of ritalin concerta or focalin mixed with small amounts of strattera. This combination helps ALOT and has less side effects. You could also try lowering your adderall amphetamine dose and combinig it with low amounts of strattera. Finally they have off label medications and herbal supplements for adhd (google it) with few side effects such as wellbutrin

Know alot about ish (mostly being high tho)

aderol f**ks up our brains bad. stop taking it.
