Black cohosh - which product has stronger formula?!

Question: Black cohosh - which product has stronger formula?
I want to buy black cohosh but am not sure which product is best.
First one is a tablet - 1000mg black cohosh - 250mg extract which gives 6.2mg triterpene glycosides.
Next is a tincture - black cohosh liquid extract 500mg per ml! (dosage 1ml per day). 1:2 dried weight equivalent.
Does anyone know what this means and which one is stronger?
The tinctue appears to be stronger but feel i am missing something as it is a third of price.

what do you think?
Cheers

Answers:

I would go with the tablet. Not everything in the plant is alcohol soluble.
How is that for making a very long story short. :)

Have a good weekend.

the 1000mg is strongest try to get a standardized formula one if you can.

1st, always be sure whatever herbs you buy are organic or wildcrafted (grown in the wilds) as these contain 7-10 times the phytochemicals that cure and prevent disease than conventional herbs (which are cheaper fro manufacturer to use but not good for you).

2nd, always use tinctures as capsules are not easily absorbable while tinctures (with alcohol menstrum) go straight to the bloodstream bypassing digestion which is especially helpful for those with digestive problems.

teas are 2nd best and need to be made with bulk organic herbs and distilled or steam distilled water as it is empty and releases more of the healing phytochemicals into the tea, Use an infusion for soft plant parts like leaves, soft berries and flowers and a decoction for hard plant parts like roots, bark, hard berries etc.

An infusion is made by steeping the herbs in boiling water poured over them like a traditional tea, while a decoction is made by boiling the herbs in the distilled water for about 15 minutes.

As you can see, if one is not absorbing the higher dose in the capsules, it is a far lesser deal than any tincture.

If buying a tincture, use a company that believes in not standardizing it (as they do with St John's wort) as they believe in using the herb as it comes from nature with all elements synergistically not taking one one chemical and making it all the same which is not natural.

A company I like for organic tincture is herbpharm available at many health food stores.coops like whole foods etc It has this belief. Another company I like who has the best herbs bar none is herbdoc.com but they do not sell everything.

Far better and cheaper is making your own and it is very easy. I save up to 90% doing this.

Start by buying th herb/s you need by typing these words into google -bulk herbs organic black cohosh

If you only need a little, type 1 oz or 4 oz in there. Here is a company I consider cheap often cheaper for their 4 oz than people selling one etc.

In this case, it is $ 7.25 which is not that cheap but better than most tinctures and you get way, way more,,enough for many tinctures and it lasts at least 5 years and often up to 100. I prefer cut and sifted over powdered.

After you get your herb measure it into a contain and add 80 proof vodka made from grains (the cheapest is ok. I find the big size the best deal.

if the herb is not hard (for hard herbs use a vitamix or cloth and hammer method to crush it up.
Add the herb and the vodka and blend. Put it into a glass jar and let it settle. When it settles, the liquid rises to the top. You want 25-50% liquid at the and 50-75% herbs at the bottom depending on how strong you want it.
Add more vodka or herbs to get the right proportions. Then shake at least once a day or when you think of it. (keep out of direct light),
After 2 weeks or longer, you strain it through a cloth or cheesecloth squeezing out all the liquid. this is your tincture. the herbs can be composted, or thrown away.
Label your tincture with what it is and put an expiration date 5 years from the date you strained it. though it will be good long after this.Store it in a dark glass bottle (blue, green or brown glass) or in a paper bag in a dark cabinet Then buy a tincture bottle with an eyedropper top and put some in there for using. Refill when needed. Be sure to label it.

The standard dose for tinctures is 60 drops (2 dropperfuls) 3-5 times a day for a 150 pound person if much less or more than that use clark's rule (ex-300 pound person takes double (300/150=2) or 120 drops or 4 dropperfuls. A kid of 75 pounds takes half (75/150=1/2) or 30 drops or 1 dropperful 3-5 times a day. 1 ten pound cats would take 10/150=1/15th so 4 drops.

This will be better than anything you can buy except for the herbs at herbdoc.com

In order of best
1 herbdoc
2 homemade as directed with organic/wildrcrafted bulk herbs
3 herbpharm
4 other

Most commercial tinctures do not use enough herbs to save money and many use cheap unuseful conventional herbs and then they don't work

Sample formula

1 part lobelia
2 parts comfrey root
2 parts skullcap
3 parts burdock root

get a measure like a tsp, cup, bowl tbs etc. if making a lot and using a cup for a measure you would use, 1 cup lobelia, 2 cups of comfrey root and 2 of skullcap and 3 cups of burdock then follow above steps.

When they are featuring a set amount of a chemical like that, these are standardized herbs not as found in nature which works in conjunction with other chemicals, nutrients in the plant that we may not even know about yet so take herbs as they grow and not with certain chemicals standardized.

To answer your question, the tincture is far superior. It must be organic or wildcrafted though

Making it is cheapest and best. You will probably get 10 times as much for same price. If buying it, I recommend you use this one

You might also check into herbdoc.com 's female formulas if using for that. They are excellent. go to the products page and click on female
