Can friends w/benefits really work?!

Question: Can friends w/benefits really work?
I have been seeing this guy for a month and a half. Things have been very complicated and based on circumstances we will probably never end up together anyways. We have decided to be friends w/benefits seeing each other about once a week with the option to see other people if the interest comes up. Has anyone done this and had it work? I am concerened about emotional implications but I do care about him so much and do not want to lose him. He is the one with all the complications, no drivers license, two kids, divorced, etc. I have been driving to see him so I pretty much have control over this thing, does anyone have an opinion or done the friends w/benefits thing and what were the final results or is it still going on? Thanks so much!!

Answers:

tried it, exploded rite in front of me with emotional connections being made (by both partners) and it became stressful and full of heartbreak.

my advice is to save urself the heartbreak in the end, considering u know its not gonna work. find urself a nice guy, that ur interested in and have a relationship with benefits :D

get out quick.

In theory it might work, but it is rare to find any relationship involving intimacy where neither person goes that step further with emotional involvement and attachment. The problem may only come when one of you makes a deep connection with someone else, but the problem will arise.

You can rationalise the whole thing in your heads, but emotions don't follow analytical thinking. Even people trying to just be friends (without benefits) after a sexual relationship usually find that it is too difficult in the short term.

If you really do care about each other, then the best thing would be to try for just a friendship. If the sexual attraction is too strong/too difficult to say "no" to, then you could try for a distance relationship (phone and e-mail) for a time and see if you can establish the relationship on a different footing.
