Manuka Honey or local honey?!

Question: Manuka Honey or local honey?
I use Manuka honey for health reason and I find this beneficial, unfortunately it is very expensive. My son keeps bees; consequently I can have a regular supply of free honey.

Do any of you know how the health benefits compare? For example if I use twice as much of the free honey, will it compare with the benefits of Manuka honey?

It depends what you are using it for. Manuka honey has a high antibacterial activity. However, local honey is supposed to be good for local pollen allergies.

Manuka honey works well for me in regards a sore throat, but normal honey does nothing. I don't need to use much, so the cost seems fine to me.

This website can give you more info, including details of testing. This is the brand I use.

Go for the local. I can't comment on a comparison between the two, I think the hype about manuka is way overblown - but I will always give the local a thumbs up in terms of the envioronment, and supporting the little hobby bee-keepers....

has articles and references to studies on the health benefits of Manuka honey which contains substances not found in local honey.

There really are no health benefits.
