Why do we have to keep our fingers at a definite way when we meditate? Why is it!

Question: Why do we have to keep our fingers at a definite way when we meditate? Why is it necessary?
Answers:

We keep our fingers in a definite way to channelize the energy in the body. Even if you do not keep in
a definite way but just make a fist with thumb inside and palms downwards it becomes Adhi Mudra
(gesture) which helps in enhancing your personal aura/magnetism. Some persons find difficulty in
concentrating and are hot heads and this trait can be neutralised and enhanced (i.e. concentration can
be improved and hot headedness can be restrained) by holding Gyan mudra. Similarly keeping one
palm over the other wherein the thumbs of both hands touch each other leads to balancing the right
and left hemisphere of the brain. So it is not necessary but in any way you keep the position of the hand
leads to a particular mudra therefore why not do a mudra which will benefit you in a way you want.
Hope this helps. Good luck and God bless. Cheers! :o)

the different hand position for meditation are called Mudras. They are sacred postures, aids to helping subtle energy points int the body come into balance. The Buddha and other saints are often depicted in pictures and statues making these hand gestures. Mudras are not necessary for meditation but they can enhance it. Different Mudras are for different purposes during spiritual practices.

here is a good read on Mudras.
