I have this old homeopathic medical book, cant read the doses?!

Question: I have this old homeopathic medical book, cant read the doses?
In my book it has all these natural cures for things, like garlic can help with intestinal distress, red onion can help with cold like symptoms, etc. It says to take these in the "Third Potency" or the "tincture to third potency" What does all that even mean? If someone can put that into simpler terms that would be great. And supposedly if you take to much of some of the common things you become very sick, like too much garlic gives you headaches and "a sensation of hairy tongue or throat" Im just so confused on how to read this book!!

Answers:

If you're a beginner to Homeopathy, get a current beginner's book written by someone like Dana Ullman, Miranda Castro, or Asa Herschoff. It makes the discipline a whole lot easier to understand. If you don't understand the basic principles of Homeopathy all the books in the world won't help you.
A tincture is actually what's called a "Mother tincture" which is made from the originating substance (plant, mineral, animal source) mixed with water and alcohol, steeped for a period of time, then filtered like most herbal tinctures. First potency on the decimal scale is 1X. The successive potencies would be 2X, 3X and so on. Between each step a quantity of the previous potency is mixed with 99 parts of alcohol and water and vigorously shaken/succussed.
The first law of Homeopathy is that Like Cures Like/the Law of Similars, so a material dose of onion will give you allergy type symptoms. A micro-dose of onion (Allium Cepa) in Homeopathy will stimulate your body's natural defences to overcome these similar allergy-type symptoms.
Homeopathy is a fascinating subject and there are thousands of books that have been written on a variety of subjects. It has a 200 year old history, and over 25,000 volumes of cured clinical case reports. There are hundreds of websites, online courses and schools all over the world.
ABC Homeopathy is the most popular of the online sites. Whole Health Now has a huge list of books, computer programs and other eductional links.

Homeopathy doesn't work there isn't a molecule of active ingredient, a third potency usually means its diluted again from the original potency, defying the laws of chemistry, physics by doing so.
It never worked when it was invented 200 years ago and it doesn't work now.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homeopathy#… look it up in the dosing section. Get a real medical book.

In simple terms, it contains no active ingredients and for the same reason has no biological effect. It's utter nonsense.

See a real Doctor.

They all read 0.
