prescription: does anyone know what divalproex is for?!

It is generic Effexor used in the treatment of depression. It is made in its salt form of the drug improving its stability and therefore increasing its bioavailability for absorption through the gut. This should not be of concern for someone with hypertension and already taking prescription meds for treatment. I'm not going to get into the technical issues of how and why drugs are formulated into their salt form but the majority of rx drugs are formulated this way to increase their effectiveness. Effexor is an excellent drug that works very well and I'm sure his physician is well aware of his existing medical conditions.
