If Ryan Mallet is this draft's "best pure passer", why isn't!

Question: If Ryan Mallet is this draft's "best pure passer", why isn't he projected higher?
Gabbert may be #1 but played in a spread offense and only threw 16tds.
Mallet has "concerns" but has a great arm accuracy and threw 34tds 12ints.

i can understand Newton over Mallet because he's so athletic as well as a good passer, but shouldnt Mallet be a top 15pick?

Answers:

From what I have heard, Mallett struggled at the Senior Bowl and didn't impress NFL scouts with his interviews at the combine.

I still think Mallett is a second round pick that has some Joe Flacco-type skills, but some teams are now wary he may lack the intangibles to be a successful NFL starter.

Well I think that depends on who is doing the rating and who says he's the draft's "best pure passer". (Never heard of the term "pure passer") One thing I have learned is, you will have multiple views on who should be the #1 player in the draft. Some think its Gabbert, others think it will be Newton, and even some think Jake Locker. But no matter which player is selected, I think each of the players this year at least in the 1st round thus far, have proven that they deserve to be drafted highly. I think Mallet had excellent stats in college, and I still think he's a late 1st rounder if not early 2nd. But I think the whole "best pure passer" came from an analyst who was giving their opinion or projection. At this point in the draft, all we can go by is what is projected. For all we know the #1 pick in the draft could be a player that we don't suspect. I don't know that Ryan Mallet is the best player in the draft, but I do think he's worth a look in the 1st round, and my prediction is, he will be picked highly unless he is ranked a lot lower based on other players and other talent.

He has shown great on the field skills but another major factor to be a great QB is to be good off the field and mentally. Mallet is immature and had poor attitude issues. Also there has been many rumors that he is involved with drugs that he has refused to deny. So he may have the throwing ability of Peyton manning but he has the brain and trouble of Ryan leaf.

It takes more than being a "pure passer" to be a top-notch quarterback.

What's a "pure passer" and who said that?
