What is a good enema to use for long term constipation(two years)?!

Question: What is a good enema to use for long term constipation(two years)?
I have been constipated for two years because I was so used to holding in my poop as a child. I've always used fleet enema. When I use it only some of the poop comes out but, I can feel a large portion of it still in my colon. I've heard fleet enema has very little solution and doesn't fill up the entire colon. So, what is an effective brand?

Answers:

I use fleet enemas. Maybe you are not leaving the liquid in long enough, do you use the whole bottle?

If you have a problem with constipation you may have IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). There are three types, type A which is constipation and diarrhea, type C which is Chronic constipation and type D which is Diarrhea .

I have type C, it took 15 years and be being hospitalized and almost doing serious damage to finally be diagnosed and get sent to a specialist who new about the disease and how to help it.

Coffee enemas are cheap and very effective. Another option is to do a full colon cleansing/colonic by a colonics specialist.

You can use an enema to get rid of the stool currently in your intestines, but that will only solve the immediate problem. Have you spoken to a doctor or psychiatrist about the mental aspect of your constipation? When you hold in your poop, you are basically letting it sit inside your large intestine (colon); the colon's job is to absorb excess water and liquid from the stool. The longer the poop is inside the colon, the more water is absorbed until eventually the poop is too hard to pass. The intestines naturally push digested food and eventually poop through with movements called peristalsis, which are just muscle contractions. Peristalsis is an involuntary occurrence, meaning you couldn't make your intestines stop pushing even if you wanted to. Therefore, it's very likely that your intestines themselves are still working properly (mechanically speaking), but that you have developed a mental aversion to pooping regularly after your childhood experiences. Thus, while an enema can help you in the short term, you should also speak to someone about re-training your body and adjusting your subconscious attitude towards using the bathroom. That way you can get back to going regularly without being dependent on enemas or laxatives. Good luck!

I've heard coffee enemas are supposed to work wonders. Obviously the coffee must be cooled, but do a simple Google on how to do it. You could also do a colon cleanse, I prefer the Cleanse Smart brand but have only used their general detox products. You could go get a holistic colonic. Increase your fiber intake, stimulate by drinking caffeine, take Metamucil or a laxative and drink plenty of water. If none of this works you should consult with your physician.

Ellie, stay away from those Fleet type enemas, they draw moisture out of the colon and can give you all kinds of problems if used to many times over a short period of time. Buy yourself a water bottle/douche/enema kit sold at most pharmacies. They are reusable and last for years and will give you a better enema by using plain warm water with allot more volume for a better cleansing.

do a colon cleanse,
that should get what ever is in your colon out

go to the vitamin shoppe(its a store) they should be of good help

Why an enema rather than laxatives? I'd recommend konjac fibre.

try eating properly. Sounds like you need to be seeing a shrink.
