Answers:

The Tdap (Tetanus/Diptheria/Pertussis) vaccine is given with a 25 Gauge needle (very tiny), the same size needle used for most other vaccinations such as the flu, hepatitis B, meningitis, etc. It is given in the upper arm (muscle). The actual injection is more along the scale of "1" or a 'pinch'. (For example, the HPV vaccination is more along the scale of "6 to 8".) The problem most people have is if their arm/muscle is tense when getting the shot, there is soreness after the injection that last for several hours. If you're completely relaxed, the soreness following the vaccination will be minimal or none at all. Do something to take your mind off getting the shot. Look away, listen to your ipod, or have someone there to talk to. Once you get your Tdap vaccination, it will be 10 years before you will need another one. Also, you would probably want to get it in your non-dominant arm, i.e. if you're right handed, get the vaccination in your left arm. Good luck!
