Weed legalization, pro or no?!

Question: Weed legalization, pro or no?
Personally I'm pro. I saw this incredible documentary called The Union, I recommend it to anyone who wants the facts.

Isn't it strange how cannabis is illegal yet guns aren't?? A plant is illegal and a weapon designed to kill people at a touch of a button isn't. Alcohol and drugs have killed 100,000+ and weed hasn't killed anyone. All it does is "make you unmotivated" and "increase the risk of a miscarriage"

When people get drunk, they lose their minds. But it's socially acceptable. And no matter how much hatred is put towards cigarettes, it's always used in movies and it's allowed in certain restaurants. You can't get high off a cigarette, alcoholic beverage, or drugs. Only messed up in the head and inside of your organs.

When people get high off of weed, they figure out the world. This is labeled illegal because the government can't tax all the weed. That's why there's medical pot, it's all taxed.

Answers:

In Amsterdam, Holland, when they decriminalized weed, the rate of users only increased slightly, the rate of teen users decreased, and the rate of hard drug use decreased. To me, this is proof that keeping it illegal will do nothing to stop people from doing it. It will only waste government resources that could be used to lock up people who are actually committing crimes. Prisons everywhere are filled to the max, and many of the felons that are there are only there for selling and trafficking weed.

The Mexican cartels would practically be shut down if we legalized weed, because they make most of their profit from selling shitty brick weed. If there were dispensaries everywhere, they would be selling super-duper american grown chronic like in California. The cartels and drug dealers would lose a lot of money from it because nobody would want their crappy mids and dirt.

It was only ever made illegal in the first place because of yellow journalism and good lobbying. I believe it was William Randolph Hearst who first realized that the hemp industry would run the logging industry into the ground. You can make 10x the amount of paper from an acre of 12 foot hemp plants as you can from an acre of trees. Hemp can be used to make practically everything, including biodegradable plastic. So anyways, this guy printed off a bunch of smear campaigns that said weed will make you go insane and stuff. This began the reefer madness era. Its influence is still around with programs like D.A.R.E. and when kids find out that they are being lied to by police officers about weed being bad for you, they say "What else should I not trust authority figures about?"

Basically, the government is ******* itself over by keeping weed illegal because they're scared of things that they think could happen based on misinformation.

Sorry for the essay, but I feel strongly about this.
Sincerely, a 16 year old stoner who thinks outside the box.

I think it should be legal There are arguments that it is addictive but I know plenty of people who are literally addicted to chocolate or coffee and it has a negative impact on their lives. Weed should be legal. Check out the program: http://nimbintelevision.net/815

It is shown on the History channel. Check it out, I think you will enjoy it.

There are good points both ways. Just thought it ironic that we had done a piece on a medical marijuana company

I don't even smoke pot and I think it should be legal. There'd be so much less 'crime'.
