My father's a medical doctor in San Diego and he hates my fiance for giving me n!

Question:

My father's a medical doctor in San Diego and he hates my fiance for giving me natural herbs...Is this stupid?

He totally disrespects us both!
He feels I am supporting the holistic doctors and herbalist who plan to put MD's out of business in the near future!
My fiance is East African and she was brought up on natural herbs and alternative medicines so she doesn't think nothing of it. I enjoy taking an herbal approach to a better health.
She doesn't understand why he is so angry.

Answers:

Over 900,000 people DIED in this country last year from adverse reactions to allopathic medicine, and that's the FACTS. I find it interesting when any MD comes out so strongly against the very substances his or her forebears/medical ancesters a) used and b) are still being used today, with great efficacy.

Here's a list of 20 drugs that are botanical or animal in origin and are still in use today, just to let your father know what his actual medical roots are: 1) Aspirin (originally from Salix species of white willow); 2) Ephedrine/Epinephrine (originally from Ephedra, ma huang, Mormon Tea and other plants; used as an adrenal stimulant; now synthetically produced and marketed as Pseudoepinephrine); 3) Cinchona Bark (used to treat malaria); 4) Resperpine (used still to treat high blood pressure); 5) Silymarin (from Milk Thistle; used to treat cirrhosis and other liver conditions); 6) Berberine (from Goldenseal, and other plants; used to treat bacterial and viral conditions, as well as fungal conditions; has other uses in allopathic medicine that I'm too lazy to look up at the moment, too.) 7) Curare (a paralytic used in surgery, anaesthesia and respiratory therapy; comes from the mucous skin secretions of an Amazonian frog; 8) Insulin (originally synthesized from the pancreases on pigs and sheep; now genetically engineered. 9) Heparin (also originally bovine, porcine and ovine in origin; a powerful anticoagulant still used today); 10-12) Morphine, laudanum and paregoric (from the opium poppy; morphine is the standard bearer for all pain killers, the drug that all others are judged against. Paregoric is used as an anti-diarrheal med.) 13) Quassia (used as an anti-malarial and to treat digestive disorders as well.); 14) Malt Soupex (from barley malt; used to treat constipation) 15) Vancristine (from Madagascar Periwinkle; the foremost drug in the treatment of childhood leukemia); 16) Artemesia (used to treat malaria and worms/parasytic infections; also used to make absinthe) 17) Capzaicin cream (originally from cayenne peppers; used as a cream to treat herpetic, diabetic and arthritic pain); 18) Digitalis (from foxglove; used as a cardiac stimulant and used to treat cardiac arrhythias); 19) mare's urine is used to make birth control pills to this day; 20) During WWI, there was an epidemic of Pneumonia in Russia. The Russians ran out of sulpha drugs to treat this deathly illness and resorted to using Allicin (from raw garlic). When they examined their numbers, the cure rate from the use of the garlic was markedly better. 21) And let us not forget Penicillin which comes from a mold, a primitive plant, folks...I could go on with this list for hours! Presently, the US Pharmacopeia is at least 25% herbal. In the 1800's, it was closer to 80% herbal, animal and mineral medicines in origin. It would be helpful if your father knew what the hell he was talking about...I can deal w/ almost anything except white male arrogance.
