i'm 15 & my dr. wants to do a procedure on me, but i dont want the lower gi study i'm letting him do the upper gi study but he acts like he will do the one i refused anyway. what should i do?!?!?! am i old enough to refuse this?
Answers:
Yes, you are old enough to refuse treatment.
However, you are better off having your parent or guardian refuse permission to do the procedure on your behalf, BUT only if they feel the procedure is medically unnecessary.
Honestly, I have had BOTH done in my late teens, and it is not the big ordeal it sounds like. They anesthetize you so you are unconscious but breathing, and by the time I came to, I had been in the recovery area for over 10 minutes. My worst complaint was some bowel cramping & slight nausea.... nothing a very light meal didn't shake off.
