What is original or authentic Wu Long Tea?
Any tea made from leaves of the plant, Camellia Sinensis, and undergoes semi fermentation is considered a Wu Long Tea. This tea is well loved by Chinese, Japanese and people from the rest of the world. As such, it is commonly available and you should be wary of retailers who claim that they are the only supplier of original or authentic Wu Long Tea.

If you go to a Chinese or Wu Long tea specialty retailer, you may find Wu Long Tea under various names e.g. Tie Kuan Yin, Wu Yi, Dong Ding, etc. This is because Wu Long Tea is further classified by their place of production. Wu Yi Tea is from Mount Wu Yi of Fujian, China while Tie Kuan Yin comes from Anxi of Fujian, China. Prices vary according to the form (whole leaf tea is more expensive than tea powder), place of production and annual production quantity.

How should Wu Long Tea be consumed?
You can enjoy a cup of Wu Long Tea (either hot or cold) at any time of the day, especially after a heavy meal.

Place one teabag in a cup and pour in about 250ml (or 8.5 ounces) of boiling water. Allow the teabag to steep for 2 – 3 minutes before removing it from the cup. Steeping beyond the recommended time will make the tea bitter. You can now enjoy a cup of hot brew. Do not add milk or other forms of sweetener (or you have to work harder to burn these additional calories!). Experience the refreshing and pleasant after taste. To drink it cold, add ice cubes to the brew.

You can prepare another 1 – 2 cups of Wu Long Tea using the same teabag.

Does Wu Long Tea contain caffeine?
Caffeine is found naturally in tea leaves. The amount of caffeine present is half the amount found in a similar size cup of coffee.
