Medical School Personal Statement Question!!! Please HELP!?!

Question: Medical School Personal Statement Question!!! Please HELP!?
I know medical school admissions want to know why you want to be a doctor and not to sound "Clique". Would it be a bad idea to mention how the many jobs I've worked after college were unfulflling? I don't want to bad mouth the jobs, just hint that these were not the career for me. From the jobs I've worked at and the experience I have gained from them, really convinced me that medical school is the career choice for me. I've had patient-doctor exposure, shadowed doctors, have the grades, the extracurriculars, and always had a desire for medicine. I really don't want my personal statement to end up in the recycling bin. Can you guys please give me some great tips? I've started it and I will post it. Are there any English majors here who will go over it when I am done????

Answers:

Always talk about positive not negatives.
From the jobs you've done, what have you learn't?
How are you going to apply these skills if you go to med school?
What can you see is relevant?
Learning and following procedures for example and why is this necessary?
Instead of saying you are unfulfilled explain why a career in medicine will fulfill you.

Hope this helps

you have two great replies already. i would add..get letters of recommendation from the doctors you have shadowed and apply to the schools from which they graduated.

Put a good spin on your many jobs. I would actually suggest that you just focus on one of those inspiring jobs and use that example for your attention grabber.

A personal statement usually includes the following. You need a good attention grabber. In general you want your essay to follow this order:

Paragraph 1-2 attention grabber. Think of an experience in your life that really showcases who you are. Be detailed. Discuss something signifcant in your life. It could be anything. Or discuss why you want to be in your profession or what story inspired you to study what you are studying.

Paragraph 3-4. Highlight your academics: GPA, classes. What skills you learned in class that will help in succeeding in college. Awards and honors that you have received. Sports or clubs that you are in.

Paragraph 5. Jobs that you have had that relate to your major? Any other things about yourself that you want to include

Paragraph 6: Conclusion. In this conclusion you may want to re-state your main qualifications. You can also include any of the following statements: My goal is.... I deserve this scholarship because....

PhD in rhetoric. I would be happy to edit your statement. Just email it to me.
