How do you become a massage therapist?
Do you have to go to school? is there some kind of a licence or certification? how about ayurvedic massages? how much money does a massage therapist make?
Answers:
Yes, you do have to go to a recognized massage school, then challenge a certification board exam in order to get licensed in your state. Specialty massages are typically extra-credit courses beyond the basic massage program. For instance, I'm a Level 1 certified geriatric massage therapist, which I got after graduating from the basic school.
How much you make depends on a lot of factors...whether you are an independent contractor versus working for a spa, where you live, etc. Bottom line: you won't get rich, but it can be very rewarding.
